Funny Story about Kissimmee

This is a Sponsored Post written by me on behalf of Kissimmee Tourism. All opinions are 100% mine.

Pool_Dad_Kids_main A while back, shortly after I got married I purchased a whole bunch of cute t-shirts from Old Navy. One of them had the saying on it that said, “If you Kissimmee, I’ll Kiss You”. I loved it and didn’t think much about it. Nor do I really know much about Kissimmee, FL except that it is one of the largest Tourist Locations in FL with more attractions than I could ever count. So I was at Disneyland, which is in California, and standing in line with my husband wearing this t-shirt. Some guy smiles at me and says, you know, it’s not pronounced that way. But it is a cute shirt. I’m just grateful he didn’t do what the shirt says. I think by the way he smiled at me made me not want to wear that shirt in such a public place again. Even though, I did think it was an incredibly cute shirt.

Kissimmee is huge when it comes to attractions. Being close to Orlando, it is so close to everything. All kinds of choices are within reach and I can’t wait to go. I’ve been begging my husband for the chance to visit Disney World with the kids. He said they both have to be three. Well next year Miles turns three.

airBoat_main So, planning out my trip, I know that I could spend every day at Disney World, Epcott and everything Disney, but looking over the Kissimmee website I see that I could stay there for a year and not do everything.

I love to be outdoors and love that the beaches are fairly close. I hope I could be adventurous and ride on an airboat. My uncle has one and I’ve been wanting to ride his but every time something gets in the way and I never get to ride on it.  So beaches, swamps, hiking, and beautiful lakes would all go on the list. I think I would wear the kids out in no time at all going on a vacation like this. I would need to bring a nanny just so I could have a night out on the town with my husband too! I can’t wait!

GiftZip Unlimited Gift Card Options Giveaway

GiftZip_Study2 GiftZip.com provides consumers with immediate access to hundreds of retailers’ instant, emailable gift cards. They promote greener gift giving and seek to eliminate the use of wasteful plastic. Their solution has "kiosk-like" usability with unparalleled selection and speed. GiftZip.com strives to save you time and energy, without sacrificing any part of your shopping experience. You don’t have to leave your house!!!

GiftZip.com dislikes plastic. Manufacturing plastic gift cards wastes valuable resources and causes destructive gases to be emitted. After production, these plastic bits must be packaged, shipped, stored, likely reshipped, restored, displayed, sold, and then possibly wrapped, packaged, and shipped again. The result? A massive carbon footprint left behind by a little 1/4 ounce card. (I’ve never considered the carbon footprint of a card before but they are hardly ever reused)

The harmful effects of plastic gift cards don’t end there. Plenty Magazine, a leading resource for sustainable living, reported that plastic gift cards account for 75 million pounds of discarded Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC) each year. PVC is a toxic substance that can contaminate water supplies. EPA studies show that exposure to PVC puts people at increased risk of liver damage, reproductive and developmental health problems, and cancer.

So we’ve been spending the nice sunny days outside chasing each other up and down the hill known as our neighborhood, but if the truth be told, the sunshine is the true POWER behind out fun. Step 3: Answer the Question:

Answer the June 22, 2010 Rayovac Powers Your Summer Promotion Summer Fun Inspiration question of the day on www.rayovac.com/PowersYourSummer.

Our Answer

My camping style would be in an RV, my husband loves using a tent and sleeping bags. Last time we did that someone stole our grill and I thought it was a bear. Everyone else slept through the whole ordeal but I was terrified. I am not an outdoorsy kind of person. I’m not fond of bugs either so yes I would like to be in a camper or RV.

Relationship Trumps All

I recently attended a meeting about cyber bullying, and keeping your kids safe on-line. It was presented by a company called schakra local to Redmond WA. They have developed a new program that can help parents monitor their child’s use of social media, gogostat parental guidance. It made me realize a lot about keeping children safe on-line and brought up quite a few valid points that even I had never considered.

Protecting your children can be a very difficult job from day one. First when they are born they can’t do anything on their own. They seem so breakable and yet they bring you the greatest kind of joy you will ever know. Then they get a little bit older, like my son and they are the most accident prone creatures you have ever seen. Always getting boo boos and watching them get hurt, grow and explore sometimes breaks your heart. All you want to do is keep them safe and protect them but you have to let them grow.

As they grow they become individuals and need us less and less. We get ready to send them to school and out of our eagle site every day. The discussion of strangers should be embedded in their brains by now, and they know not to ever leave or even talk to someone they do not know. Have you ever thought about discussing how strangers on-line relates to strangers in person?

I know that I have received many invitations to check out on-line sites geared towards children. My kids are young, but there are sites that they can go to and make on-line friends but how safe is that? It’s not safe at all. People can sign up for these sites no matter what their age and lie about who they are. Predators target these sites. There are no fail safes for this. You as a parent are the only fail safe. You can protect your children by making sure your kids only friend people they know in real life. If you begin this lesson with smaller websites then when they move to facebook or any form of social media it will be easier to maintain the same rule. Teach them that the number of friends they have on-line is not a status symbol. Looking at my own friends on facebook, I think I need to re-examine my own lists.

A common misconception of the internet is that it is a safe place to hang out, pretend to be someone else, or share information about yourself.

Children believe that on-line isn’t real. They think it is a place where they can hide behind an avatar and do whatever they want or say whatever they want. They think they are safe and that no one will find out who they really are, but it is not true. The internet is a very dangerous place and traceable. I don’t even think that most adults realize that after something is posted on-line (photos or words) it can not be un-done. Yes you can delete it but it is still there and it is always there (difficult to find but yes still there nonetheless). Think twice before posting. Educate yourself as a parent. Learn about websites, social media or anything that your child has an interest in.

How does Gogostat help?

Gogostat  works on the basis that you have a strong relationship with your child. “Relationship trumps all”

Gogostat Parental Guidance allows you to monitor key words and phrases that might be bad in applications that your child uses on-line. It also sends you an alert if one of their friends posts a photo of your child. I mean, it only works if you know what sites your child is using and their account name. Then you can tell your child what is appropriate and what is not. You can tell them to tell their friend to take down that photo of them if you feel it is inappropriate. It is an application that helps good kids stay out of trouble and safe. Peer pressure is strong and on-line peer pressure works the same way. Let them hide behind you and use you as a reason to keep all information on-line to a minimum and age appropriate.

The best way to protect them

Be sure to keep up a line of communication with your children throughout their lives. You have to be able to talk to them about anything and make them feel that they have no reason to hide anything from you. I know this isn’t easy and you won’t always be liked. Being a parent is not about your children liking you. It’s about loving them and putting their safety above all else.

Dinner Time Giveaway: Red Baron Pizza and Pasta

redbarenRed Baron has been making frozen pizza for as long as I can remember. It is quite convenient to have a box of their frozen pizza in the freezer so you can have dinner on nights you don’t feel like going out, you don’t want to wait on delivery and you don’t want to cook from scratch.

Knowing that Red Baron has had quality frozen pizza for a while now that they have added three new pizzeria-style items, I had no concerns when trying the new items they sent us for review.

Our first sample was the Red Baron Pan Pasta Chicken Alfredo. Now, I’m not a big fan of Alfredo sauce out of a can so I wasn’t sure that I would like this. I purchased it because it was sure to be a hit with my family. I ended up loving it and not wanting to share it. I fed my kids but I ate all the leftovers myself. Yes please don’t laugh I did. I do have the ability to put food away when it tastes really good. Pizza and pasta are easy to devour.  It was easy to make, just put it in the oven, let it sit then cool.

redbaron

The Red Baron® Pan Pastas deliver delicious pizzeria-style taste in three popular pasta varieties, including Rotini with Meat Sauce, Chicken Alfredo and Bacon Mac & Cheese, all covered with 100 percent real cheese.  New Red Baron® Pan Pizza has a thick crust that is golden crisp on the outside, light and airy on the inside, and is offered in everyone’s favorite varieties, including 4-Cheese, Pepperoni, Supreme and Meat-Trio® pizza

Now the other item we haven’t had the chance to try yet is the pizza by the slice. My freezer isn’t big enough to hold all of these so I have to go out and buy them this week but I know I won’t be disappointed.

Red Baron® Pizza By The Slice is the first microwaveable slice of pizza that provides unbelievable pizza taste from the microwave. Each package contains two individually wrapped, generous size slices of pizza, each contained within an innovative special crisping tray. This patent pending crisping tray delivers a crispy fire baked crust that is ready in minutes, making it possible to satisfy pizza cravings anytime and anywhere. This convenient on-the-go solution is available in a variety of classic flavors, including 4-Cheese, Pepperoni, Supreme and Meat-Trio® pizza for a suggested retail price of $3.49.

In addition to winning some coupons here on Mom Start you can enter weekly the “Anytime, Anywhere” Sweepstakes for a chance to win Red Baron® Pizza By The Slice or the grand prize, a trip for four anywhere in the continental United States. Simply visit RedBaronAnytimeAnywhere.com and tell them when and where you enjoyed your pizza slice for a chance to win.

Relaxing with Iced Tea

icedcoffeeYou all know that I can’t start my day without some form of caffeine in me and sometimes it’s just too hot for a hot drink. I am super addicted. I get head aches if I try to skip my caffeine fix. Summer time is all about iced tea, iced drinks, and cold coffee. My husband and I came up with a system to make me iced tea a few weeks ago but Keurig just made it even easier.

What we were doing:

We would grab a tea bag, steep some tea in a coffee mug, using water from the Keruig. Make some crushed ice and put it in a glass. Then after the tea has steeped add some sugar and pour over the ice. Not a bad process but we still had to wait for the tea to steep.

Now

We use the k-cups made for iced drinks. (do not use a glass cup as seen in my photos, glass can facture under this kind of heat and temperature change) Make a cup of coffee, or tea, put crushed ice in a glass cup, I added my creamer to the cup of ice. Let the coffee cool just a tad and pour over the ice. (You can brew it directly over the ice as long as you do not use glass)

icedcoffee2

Flavors that you can find iced beverages in k-cups:

French Vanilla Iced Coffee

Sweet Raspberry Black Tea

Sweet Peach Black Tea

Nantucket Blend Iced Coffee

Black Tea unsweetened

Sweet Lemon Black Tea

Southern Sweet Black Tea

Half & Half Black Tea & Lemonade

You can order any of these brew over ice flavors from Green Mountain Coffee.

High Drama 2 #WBWord

"High Drama 2" follows the theater company of Freedom High School in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, as they put on their best show yet: The Wizard of Oz. I missed High Drama the first time around but I’m pleased that I found out about season 2. I am after all a reality TV junkie. I was never brave enough to do theater. Getting up in front of people is so hard for me to do. Watching these teenagers get up and do this makes me wish I could be braver. The girls that went up for the lead of Dorothy were both very talented and I think the judges picked the right winner. That girl Allie can sing. She was quite impressive and even sings her own songs when she isn’t on stage at school.

The cast member playing The Lion, Tony, has a condition that makes memorization difficult for him, yet he has challenged himself by taking on a leading role within the show.  It was his drama teacher that actually helped him determine that he has a learning disability. If only all of us could find the courage it takes to over come a difficulty in our lives. I’m just a normal person and have found it difficult to over come my fears and weaknesses. However, blogging is going to make me get out of that shell. Because I keep finding myself in front of cameras and being put on TV or the internet in commercials. Small time! (friends, I am not famous by a long shot, but thanks for all of your support)

"High Drama 2" is an original web series only available on TheWB.com.

What would make MY cleaning easier? LOL!! Well, let’s see … maybe having kids who thought things like, “hmmm, let me remember to take my change of clothes into the bath with me so that I don’t end up walking out of the bathroom with a towel wrapped around me, dropping it on the floor of my bedroom to change, and leaving it there” .. or even, “darn! I forgot to bring my clothes into the bath with me”.. then thinking, “OK, now that I have my clothes on, let me take this towel back into the bathroom to hang it up” … OR .. hmmm…”I just got toothpaste all over the wall and mirror while I was brushing, let me reach the two feet down to the bathroom vanity, pull out the sponge and wipe it off”…. OR … “Wow! That dinner was really good! Let me rinse this plate off before I drop it in the sink so that it will save Mom having to scrub off hard, dried-on goo to get it clean” … OR, even better “Hmmm, maybe I’ll throw some dish soap onto the sponge and wash this dish off .. oh! and a couple of others, too, so that the dish soap I use doesn’t go to waste!” … YEAH .. THAT kind of thinking would definitely make MY housecleaning easier!
