The Answer to Kids Sunscreen Protests, Weather Kid Sid

Cover Image - Sid the Science Kid: Weather Kid Sid

Yesterday I wrote a review about one of my favorite programs to watch with my kids, Dinosaur Train, today, I’m writing about my husband’s favorite show, Sid the Science Kid. NCircle Entertainment and PBS sent me a copy of Sid the Science Kid Weather Kid Sid to review with my family. I’m quite excited to have a new copy of Sid the Science kids because my husband is so fond of watching it with the kids.

Sid the Science Kid is about Sid and his friends and the discoveries they make at school. They have science lessons every day, as they sing, play and interact with one another just like children do every day. The feel of the show is so natural, every day Sid gets up, struggles to get his breakfast eaten, goes off to school and plays with his friends. He occasionally has a play date after school with his best friend Gabriela. Gabriela is my daughter’s favorite character because of the pigtails, but she is also partial to May and her purple hair.

Weather Kid Sid has four episodes with the first episode introducing the rain. They learned all about how the rain helps things to grow, and that it doesn’t just rain to ruin play dates.  Another episode was about spending the day with his dad out in the sun. Sid was protesting the sun block, the same way mine did, but he learned all about why it was necessary to put on sun block.

image The Answer to Kids Sun Block Protests:

Zoe and Miles both absolutely detest having sunscreen put on them. Miles has to be held down, and Zoe was the same way until she watched Sid The Science Kid, Weather Kid. After watching the episode about sunscreen she will tolerate it.

At school, Sid and his friends discover that sunscreen is a great way to protect your skin from the sun. And they also learn about the amazing ways the sun helps the Earth.  Parents and their children can explore and learn more about sunscreen at the Sid the Science Kid official website at PBSKIDS.org/sid.

This was our conversation after she watched Sid the Science Kid.

Mommy, Sid doesn’t like sunblock

No he doesn’t does he sweetie?

No

But he wears it right?

Yeah

Can I put some on you now?

Yeah, I won’t scream like bubby.

Thank You Baby

She lets me put it on her now without complaint. I missed the actual episode, I watched the rain episode with them, but I missed whatever conversation she had with her dad and what she actually learned from Sid. Whatever went on, I’m very grateful to be down to only one protesting child instead of two. You know, when you’re out in public and your child is screaming, other parents stare at you and give you looks.

So if your having issues with your kids, maybe their favorite cartoon character knows a thing or two about putting on sun block. Even the Imagination Movers sing about sun block.

Head & Shoulders Endurance For Men Giveaway

hair endurance shampooHead & Shoulders was already in our bathroom when I was contacted on behalf of Proctor and Gamble to try out Head & Shoulders Endurance for Men. I have to use Head & Shoulders on my skin, the ingredients in Head & Shoulders actually keep a fungus that likes to make me itch at bay. When I use it every day and exfoliate, I feel a lot better. My husband however, uses Head & Shoulders for his hair, like most normal people would. He has slight dandruff unless he is using a dandruff prevention shampoo like Head & Shoulders.

The Head & Shoulders Endurance has a very nice manly smell so I love using it instead of the plain one. I love the smell of a man, when my husband uses deodorant or takes a shower, I just love to smell him. I hope you don’t find me too weird, but really, I love the “man smell” that companies have added to products, and Proctor and Gamble succeeded yet again in finding a scent that I love to smell.

My husband’s words, “It’s not fru fru”

What is special about Endurance?

New Hair Endurance cleans to restore a fuller look to thin looking hair.

The first of the Head & Shoulders line for men

My husband likes the special differences in the Endurance Head & Shoulders as well, he’s going to finish it off before he moves back the regular stuff. Then when we’ve finished, we’ll have to decide if we want to switch. We probably will just because I love the smell so much.

Dinosaur Train Returns with Four New Episodes

Dinosaur TrainPBS Kids has quite a few shows that entertain and educate my children. We like Sid the Science Kid, Dragon Tales and Dinosaur Train. Dinosaur Train is one of my favorites personally, I love the catchy song. “Dinosaur Train, Dinosaur Train, gonna riiiiiiiide, the Dinosaur Train. I’d love to ride it myself except for a royal fear of dinosaurs.

On May 24, PBS KIDS will bring the series back with four new episodes. Dinosaur train is a CG-animated preschool series created by The Jim Henson Company. The Pteranodon family is going on world tour learning about all the dinosaurs around the globe and your kids are invited to tag along. The Pteranodon family have an adopted son named Buddy and he’s a T-rex with lots of hypothesizes on his mind.

We’ve been lucky enough to receive a screener copy of the four episodes and it must be partly my excitement but we’ve moved on from watching The Princess and the Frog to Dinosaur Train every morning. We have watched as The Pteranadon family travels the globe journeying to Asia, Europe and Africa with a new character Gilbert, the conductor’s young nephew. These new summer-themed vacation episodes, are just the spirit for those going on summer vacations and families doing their own exploring with kids.

In addition, two new games will be featured on the Parents’ Choice Award-winning website, PBSKIDS.org/dinosaurtrain.  The All Aboard game (launching in May) will give kids control of the Dinosaur Train as a junior conductor, helping to seat different types of dinosaurs as the train moves from station to station.  And in Dinosaur Tracks (available now) Buddy and his friends are making tracks in the mud, kids can help them figure out which footprint comes next.

One of the episodes is about a bird, the Confusiousornos and it looks a little bit like a peacock, at the end of the episode when the paleontologist is talking about peacocks, Zoe just lights up. We took a trip to the zoo last week and her favorite animal was the peacock. So she just loves it. I love to see my kids get excited about learning. Each episode takes everyone on a journey like this one and ties in with a lesson about that species of dinosaur at the end.

Michael Bolton One World One Love Review

Unlimited Free Image and File Hosting at MediaFire

Thanks to Team Mom’s group Music Moms I received Michael Bolton’s new CD One World One Love. On this record, he’s collaborated with a number of exciting talents including award-winning singer/songwriters Lady Gaga and Ne-yo. He will also be embarking on a 6-month World Tour with stops across the US and Europe through September of 2010.

I’ve been listening to it during the kids’ naptime. It’s been relaxing and refreshing. When I hear the music I remember Michael Bolton and  how he used to look with long hair, how long ago was that? Forever probably.

I’ve always enjoyed his music and this CD is great too. With 12 different tracks and many of the songs about love, I’m just in my own zone.

1. Ready For You
2. Just One Love
3. Need You To Fall
4. Hope It’s Too Late
5. Can You Feel Me
6. The Best
7. Murder My Heart (featuring Lady GaGa)
8. You Comfort Me
9. Sign Your Name
10. Invisible Tattoo
11. Survivor
12. Crazy Love

If I had to pick a favorite song, it would have to be Crazy Love. Won’t you give me love love love, crazy love. That’s what I need, I’m often low and in a dark place and it’s the love of my friends and family that keep me up. Listening to music and thinking of those people bring happy memories.

One World, One Love (associate link)

Check out Michael Bolton on Twitter and Facebook.

I received this CD Free to me, from Team Mom.

Oh Thank You Sun

image The sun is  out this week and I feel like a different person. I’m loving the vitamin D and getting in extra time with the kids and less time on the blog. I have a feeling this summer is going to be the same all summer long.

I’ve been quite depressed over the last couple of weeks. We didn’t see the sun much and we stayed in the house a lot. I was sick for almost the entire month of April and I had so much promoting to do on my blog with success but I think part of the reason was because I was inside so much. So, I’ve decided to go outside this month and let my blog go as it may.

Yes I’ll still be doing reviews and hosting giveaways, but I’m going to be even more erratic than I was before. I need more play time with my kids before Zoe goes to pre-school. So we’re going to enjoy the Sunshine. Today we have plans to head off to the beach, if we can make the hike. I hear that the park we are going to is a bit far from the beach itself but you can make it. I’m trying to decide if I need to take the stroller or not. I think I’m going to go without it today.

So my thanks for this week goes to God and His beautiful Sun. Without it I would be in a very dark place.

We’re going to Giant Magnet This Weekend #Seattle

GiantMagnetWe were graciously invited to attend Giant Magnet’s opening night in Seattle on Tuesday, but my kids are such good little sleepers and they go to bed at 7 so we were unable to attend. We are however, planning on going there this weekend with my husband.

Global Attractions Playing Locally is coming to Seattle Center May 11-15.  The festival offers a lineup of extraordinary performances from all around the world including theatre, puppetry, circus arts, music, and dance that are sure to entertain and astonish audiences.  The performances are appropriate for people of all ages and backgrounds and provide an opportunity to see the world from the comfort of your own city.  Join us weekdays and on Saturday May 15, Family Day, for activities at the Discovery Centers. All activities are FREE and include kite-making, interactive games, hula hooping, origami, and more.  Tickets and information at www.GiantMagnet.org.

I’m so excited to take my kids. The majority of the event is free, with tons of activities that will be perfect for my two toddlers. We might experience stories and folk tales from the home lands of our artists, supplied by Seattle Public Library. Or draw, write a poem or tell us about your experience at the festival on our new environmentally friendly reusable Giant Magnet Banner with Red Tricycle. I also love the idea of building a kite with my kids courtesy of The Drachen Foundation.

We have tickets to attend one of the performances, and I think we’ll go see the Gansango World Tour. Seattle based choreographer Etienne Cakpo welcomes Gansango, vibrant Senegalese dancers and musicians. Rhythmic drumming, dancing and chanting in unison creates a sense of the dancers moving together as one.

About Giant Magnet:

Giant Magnet is a celebration of world cultures through the performing arts. Its mission is to provide cultural experiences, education and exchange for the children and families of the Pacific Northwest region.

We received free tickets that we are going to use this weekend.
