Memorial Day Shopping

Most people spent today, this weekend, last week resting, enjoying the sun or inside a pool. We spent all weekend looking for a new couch. Our current couch is quite an eye sore! It’s black and the cushions are all worn out from my lounging on them while I was pregnant, my husband says it’s just because the couch is almost ten years old, not because of me, but I’m sure it was me. I spent a lot of time on the couch. It is also suffering from some severe cat claw marks.

The kids had a great time and since it rained all weekend it was a great way for the kids to get exercise. I’m sure a lot of the sales associates were a little uncomfortable with my kids jumping up and down testing out the durability of the couches, but I would hate to get home with a couch that isn’t going to stand up. Right?

We tried a place called Scan Design, it was really modern and we found a couch we loved, but it was the first store so we decided to wait. The couches there were modern, and comfortable.

We then had to go and get dinner and while we were eating at the mall we looked at couches at JCPenny. JCPenny customer service was lacking so we decided to leave without fully looking at all of the possibilities.

Home we went and we were an hour late for bedtime. The kids were so GRUMPY.

Day two started late, we went to Macy’s and the customer service there was perfect. He followed us but was far enough back that we felt comfortable looking. We jumped on them, laid on them and tried out every feature. Of course my husband being the man he is fell in love the the Entertainment Theater Style Sectional. I have to admit it was comfortable.

Then we narrowed it down to two, the Theater Style couch and the Anthony. (Why do couches get names?)

But we had more stores to check out. It is all about getting the best price and the most comfort.

We checked out Ethan Allen and although their couches are very comfortable, we couldn’t afford complete customization. We knew exactly what we wanted but once you added any type of fabric, the price goes up, and then up some more. So, I really wanted a naked couch from Ethan Allen. Maybe I should look into covering couches myself.

We checked out two other stores and went back into Scan Design. When we went back in and sat on the couch, yes it was still comfortable, but the couch had doubled in size in our heads so looking at it again we realized that we could get much more couch for the same comfort level at Macy’s. Can you imagine how tired the kids are at this points. We skipped naps on Saturday, Big mistake. Anthony

On Sunday, we went to church and took the day off from couch shopping. I think, I actually can’t remember for sure, oh yes I do, we went to Costco and that took up our entire afternoon. We decided to make a decision and picked out a couch, so we spent an hour on Monday just sitting in Macy’s making sure we wanted the couch, I wonder if this is normal behavior for picking out a piece of furniture? We wanted to make sure we had the same sales associate because he was so helpful on Saturday and spent so much time with us. We had to go to lunch and come back to make the final purchase. I talked my husband out of the Entertainment couch, and we purchased the Anthony.

I think it is. We only had a few stores to chose from but even at the one store we bought from it took a long time. We liked a few couches and then when we made our decision we needed to pick fabric. So yes, I think so especially when you have many places to look.

I know this used to happen with appliances but we have gotten disgusted with Sears, never in stock, and another store here, so now just go to Lowes! LOL makes it easier.

This time we ordered a greenish-blue sectional and love it! Never had one before but I like that my hubby can have one part and stretch out and I can have the other. My son can have a bunch over to watch a movie and it works equally well for that. We love our couch and I am sure you will, too!

If it’s not it should be. The few times I didn’t take my tine, I truely regretted it!!

It’s a huge process for us when we buy a big item like a piece of furniture.

PS – It always takes a long time and some in-store-sitting/laying to pick the right furniture!
