Memorial Day Shopping

Most people spent today, this weekend, last week resting, enjoying the sun or inside a pool. We spent all weekend looking for a new couch. Our current couch is quite an eye sore! It’s black and the cushions are all worn out from my lounging on them while I was pregnant, my husband says it’s just because the couch is almost ten years old, not because of me, but I’m sure it was me. I spent a lot of time on the couch. It is also suffering from some severe cat claw marks.

832_medium_thumbnail_1593-habartSo from store to store we went searching for the most comfortable place to rest our buts. The kids had a great time and since it rained all weekend it was a great way for the kids to get exercise. I’m sure a lot of the sales associates were a little uncomfortable with my kids jumping up and down testing out the durability of the couches, but I would hate to get home with a couch that isn’t going to stand up. Right?

We tried a place called Scan Design, it was really modern and we found a couch we loved, but it was the first store so we decided to wait. The couches there were modern, and comfortable.

We then had to go and get dinner and while we were eating at the mall we looked at couches at JCPenny. JCPenny customer service was lacking so we decided to leave without fully looking at all of the possibilities.

Home we went and we were an hour late for bedtime. The kids were so GRUMPY.

Day two started late, we went to Macy’s and the customer service there was perfect. He followed us but was far enough back that we felt comfortable looking. We jumped on them, laid on them and tried out every feature. Of course my husband being the man he is fell in love the the Entertainment Theater Style Sectional. I have to admit it was comfortable.

Then we narrowed it down to two, the Theater Style couch and the Anthony. (Why do couches get names?)

But we had more stores to check out. It is all about getting the best price and the most comfort.

We checked out Ethan Allen and although their couches are very comfortable, we couldn’t afford complete customization. We knew exactly what we wanted but once you added any type of fabric, the price goes up, and then up some more. So, I really wanted a naked couch from Ethan Allen. Maybe I should look into covering couches myself.

We checked out two other stores and went back into Scan Design. When we went back in and sat on the couch, yes it was still comfortable, but the couch had doubled in size in our heads so looking at it again we realized that we could get much more couch for the same comfort level at Macy’s. Can you imagine how tired the kids are at this points. We skipped naps on Saturday, Big mistake. Anthony

On Sunday, we went to church and took the day off from couch shopping. I think, I actually can’t remember for sure, oh yes I do, we went to Costco and that took up our entire afternoon. We decided to make a decision and picked out a couch, so we spent an hour on Monday just sitting in Macy’s making sure we wanted the couch, I wonder if this is normal behavior for picking out a piece of furniture? We wanted to make sure we had the same sales associate because he was so helpful on Saturday and spent so much time with us. We had to go to lunch and come back to make the final purchase. I talked my husband out of the Entertainment couch, and we purchased the Anthony.

BBC Earth presents Life Blu-ray DVD Giveaway Bundle

Is your dad, or husband convinced that Blu-ray is the only way to go? Mine sure is, and he says that everyone needs a movie like Life on Blu-ray to fully appreciate the potential behind a blu-ray player and HD quality TV. And I have to say, WOW!

1000152333BRDLEF Synopsis and Review:

Life is four years in the making, having been filmed in over 3000 days, across every continent and in every habitat. Life is the latest wildlife blockbuster from the BBC’s award-winning Natural History Unit, the producers of Planet Earth and The Blue Planet. Oprah Winfrey is the narrator in this 4 disc epic.

We love movies like Earth by BBC, and Life is packed with excitement, revelation, entertainment, and stunning screen firsts. I love the scenes, and colors, they looks so good that at times it is hard to believe that all of this is actual footage. I would even go as far as saying that Life is step above Earth. This breathtaking ten-part blockbuster presents 130 incredible stories from the frontiers of the natural world and I am mesmerized, I especially like the slow motion scenes, so amazing. Through these excellent camera shots I was able to discover the glorious variety of life on Earth and the spectacular and extraordinary tactics animals and plants have developed to stay alive, individual creatures under extreme pressure to overcome challenges from adversaries and their environment, pushing the boundaries of behavior. Becoming an excellent educational video worth watching!! Own it on DVD on June 1st.

We’re Switching Printers Kodak 6150 Printer Review

I would like to update this post and say that yes we still use this printer but it does drive me crazy. When it runs out of either black or color ink it stops printing. I don’t even get a warning anymore about it running out of ink. All I get is it doesn’t print. Paper does often get jammed when doing faxes as well.

I’ve been using printers since Lexmark was a big named printer, wait, they still are. Now choosing a printer can be pretty daunting and I usually leave that decision to my husband. He’s the pickier person anyways. When it comes to how he makes a decision it is quality over price, me, I would pick the cheapest one and hope for the best.

image

My husband goes on-line and reads review after review, and takes in factors, like ink type, speed, and noise. Some printers may be fast but if they sounds like an elephant parade then they are not an option. Because of my blogging, we have found the need for an all-in-one printer. My husband picked up and HP at Costco. We’ve been satisfied by it, but we didn’t really know any better. Little did I know that my husband was barely satisfied, he doesn’t like the way it auto corrects photos that you scan in without his permission. Kodak sent us the Kodak 6150 Printer to review and my expectations were low. I’m not sure why, but when I think of Kodak and printers, I just assumed the quality was going to be less then the HP.

Kodak blew our HP out of the water!

Setting up the 6150 was really easy. The Kodak has the option to conned to networks that have the push button technology, for some reason it didn’t work at our house and my husband still had to type in the 20 digit network key, but he suspects it was his own fault because he has been trying to make our network extra secure. I have no idea. Installing it on the computer was also pretty simple, I was just disappointed that my computer couldn’t find it on the network. I had to use the CD before it could find it. Microsoft didn’t already have the drivers, but just follow the directions the printer comes with and you’ll have no issues.

image

Faxing – just hook it up to your phone line and it’s ready to go.

Printing – The Kodak 6150 uses a new technology for ink. The pigment ink is something that my husband has been really interested in. The ink lasts over 100 years printed, and it is more economical. Kodak sells their re-fills for around 9.00. I hear so many people say that they hate buying more ink because it ends up making their printer cost a fortune. IMG_1150

The speed seemed ok to me and my husband never complained, which means it passed the speed test. The sound, no elephants were in my kitchen while I was blogging. He was printing out photos while I was blogging away. I’m sure he was giving me a play by play of the printer, but I was not exactly listening to every word he said as I was trying to get some work done.IMG_1151

Print and share your mobile life—with built-in wireless connectivity, you can easily print from multiple sources:

  • Print documents and photos sent from a Wi-Fi enabled BLACKBERRY Smartphone[10]with the KODAK Print App for BLACKBERRY—visit www.kodak.com/go/blackberry for more information
  • Print photos in multiple sizes sent from an iPhone or iPod touch[11]with the KODAK Pic Flick App for iPhone—visit www.kodak.com/go/picflick for more information

Scanning – scanning is impressive because you can scan and send it to your network, or computer. Most printers you have to initiate the scan from your computer. The Kodak, allows you to choose the computer you want to save to from the printer itself, I found my husband’s computer and scanned to it. The HP could not do that. There was also no auto correction, you can choose to make corrections or changes to your photo. You can rotate it, make some color corrections or sharpen it up to three degrees. This is something I would expect from a Kodak printer.IMG_1149

Photos – my husband spent half the night the other evening printing new photos of our children. The HP never inspired him to print out photos, but the Kodak and it’s quality photos left him printing and printing. The colors are a close match to the originals.   IMG_1152

We still have our Canon i9100 that we will be using to print 13 by 19, hint hint Kodak!!

Overall though, the Kodak 6150 has impressed us so much that we are going to switch from HP to Kodak. Kodak, you have impressed my husband and I guarantee he’s going to be following your technology with more interest than he did previously.

NUK Starter Set Review and Giveaway

imageOne of my favorite bottle brands is NUK, because you can get pacifiers made by them too. I found that it was a lot easier to pass between bottle and pacifier when they were the same brand. My daughter used NUK, my son, who didn’t like breastfeeding, also did not like NUK, I’m really not sure what it was. I also don’t remember anything as cool as the NUK Starter Set when I was feeding Zoe, but maybe that was because I was a sleep deprived brand spanking new mommy. I think we purchased all of the pieces separately.

NUK-USA.COMNUK sent me a starter set to review, and I’m happy to look at all the pieces and and describe them to you. That’s my photo of the box, but I want to make sure all the pieces are in pristine condition so that I can donate them. I’m sure that charities want items like this to be just like brand new. So, HUGE THANKS goes out to NUK for allowing me to use this starter set as a donation!

NUK Starter Set, which includes 3 bottles 2 5 ounce and 1 10 ounce, additional orthodontic nipples (2 slow and 2 fast flow) and an orthodontic pacifier. It retails for $39.95 and is perfect for new moms!Product Image

These pacifiers were Zoe’s favorite, until her daddy taught her how to suck on her thumb, and then she had to go and teach her baby brother how to suck on his thumb. Grrr, pacifiers are so much easier to take away when you get to that stage.

Throwing a Suave Mango Mandarin Party

imageThanks to Mom Select and Suave I received a Suave Mango Mandarin body wash party pack.

The party pack included recipes inspired by the new scent, some scarves colored in mandarin orange and yellow, and plenty of Suave Mango Mandarin Body Wash to share with all of my friends.

With directions on how to fill the time and of course the full size samples, my friends felt quite pampered. I gave everything away except for a bottle of the Suave body wash to keep for myself.

Product Description:

Infused with mango and mandarin extracts, along with skin conditioning Vitamin E, Suave Naturals® Mango Mandarin Body Wash moisturizes in the shower and revitalizes your senses with a lively citrus and fruity fragrance bliss. Women prefer this body wash fragrance to Bath & Body Works®* Mango Mandarin.

I love body washes, and whenever I’m out of bubble bath I just dump in some body wash to make my bath time extra special. This was an average in thickness and luxurious in smell, it is nice to come out of the bath and smell like citrus. I enjoyed using it!
