Protect Your family with CO monitors in your house #giveaway

CO_House I hear of people dying every year from Carbon Monoxide poisoning. If you have a fireplace, wood burning stove, or use gas of any kind you really should invest in a CO monitor. Some smoke detectors have the CO detectors included in them.

CO is caused by incomplete burning of fuel, propane, kerosene, gasoline, oil, natural gas, wood and charcoal. And because it is odorless and colorless it is a silent killer, people just die in their sleep. It even causes you to be drowsy, so you’ll never know what is going on. It is preventable though. It is recommended that you follow three steps: Inspect, Protect, and Detect. The Following details come directly from UL (Underwriters Laboratories).

Inspect

· Don’t forget to inspect! Fuel-burning appliances such as furnaces, hot water heaters and stoves require yearly maintenance. Over time, components can become damaged or deteriorate. Have a qualified technician inspect your fuel-burning appliances once a year as they can identify and repair problems with your fuel-burning appliances.

Protect

· Protect your family, especially while they sleep. Purchase and install UL-LISTED CO alarms outside each sleeping area, including the basement and any other locations required by applicable laws. Read the manufacturer’s instructions carefully before installing a CO alarm. The UL-LISTING on a CO alarm means the product has been found free of foreseeable hazards and is safer for your family.

· Is your CO alarm installed in the right place? Do not place a CO alarm within five feet of household chemicals. And, avoid placing your alarm directly on top of or near fuel-burning appliances as these appliances will emit some CO when initially turned-on.

· Make sure you test, so your alarm works the best! Test and replace the battery in your CO alarm at least once a year. If your alarm is wired directly into your home’s electrical system, you should test it monthly. If your unit operates off of a battery, test the alarm monthly and replace the battery at least once a year.

· Know the signs of potential CO poisoning. CO poisoning may be the cause of flu-like symptoms such as headaches, tightness of chest, dizziness, fatigue, confusion and breathing difficulties. Because CO poisoning often causes a victim’s blood pressure to rise, the victim’s skin may take on a pink or red cast.

Detect

· If your CO alarm goes off – GET OUT – quickly and safely! Practice a CO safety escape plan with your family so everyone knows how to react to a CO alarm. If your alarm sounds, evacuate the building and call the fire department. If you or your loved ones experience symptoms of CO poisoning – headache, dizziness or other flu-like symptoms – seek medical attention immediately. And, when you return home, be sure to open windows and doors for ventilation. Then, call a qualified technician to inspect your appliances.

· Be alert, don’t get hurt! Streaks of carbon or soot around the service door of your fuel-burning appliances, moisture collecting on the windows and walls of furnace rooms and fallen soot from the fireplace or small amounts of water leaking from the base of the chimney are all signs of a CO problem in your home.

Fun in the Texas Snow Storm

IMG_6546

You know, Texas likes to do things big but we can’t even come close to the Blizzard in the North. However, when Texas receives up to 8 inches in one day it’s an EVENT that must be captured. I had a terrible day today and I had a headache and didn’t want to do anything. With the snow falling and me being unprepared I just thought it would be best to stay inside. Well, my daughter had a different idea. She wanted to go outside in the snow. She begged me all day, so finally I couldn’t resist her. I put three layers of clothing on both of the kids, two pairs of socks and to hats each. My daughter had gloves but my son didn’t. She loved it, she did all kinds of things in the snow.

IMG_6537

She ate it, she made a snow castle and she had a snow ball fight.

Milesman just played around in it, walking back and fourth and then he wanted to go in, his poor fingers were cold.

aden + anais’ and the CJ Foundation for SIDS’ #giveaway

cozysleep Oh wow there is a lot of snow across the US and we’re expecting only 2 – 3 inches but we are in Texas, I mean come on. Snow! With the coldest of the winter months now upon us, I have been seeking out as many blankets as I can. If I was in my own house I would be turning on the fireplace and turning up the heat. But how do you keep your babies warm. Infants who are overdressed or covered in heavy blankets or many blankets are at higher risk for SIDS. It is very important for babies to be dressed lightly and comfortably to avoid overheating. The CJ Foundation recommends the use of wearable blankets and sleep-sacks in place of blankets to keep infants warm while sleeping.

cozysleep2 aden + anais®, creator of the original muslin swaddling blanket and unique muslin cotton sleeping bags, is proudly sponsoring the CJ Foundation for SIDS and their continuing efforts to educate parents about the importance of not over-bundling and over-heating their infants. Over 2,000 babies in the United States still die of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) each year, and overheating is a leading risk factor.  I had no idea that this was the case. I couldn’t imagine losing one of my two and I am the mom that checks on them a dozen times before I go to bed.

In an effort to support the CJ Foundation for SIDS’ mission, aden + anais® began sponsoring the foundation in October 2009 during SIDS Awareness Month. Each aden + anais® product is made of 100% breathable muslin cotton, which allows baby’s body temperature to adjust naturally, reducing the risk of overheating.

The CJ Foundation recently launched its Sleep in Safety, Grow in Style (SSGS) campaign to help educate parents about the importance of designing safe sleeping environments for babies. aden + anais® is working to help the CJ Foundation inform parents of the many ways they can keep their baby safe. While over-heating is one risk-factor for SIDS, SSGS and aden + anais® seek to educate parents about this and the other risk-reducing, precautionary practices:cozysleep3

  • Consider the use of fans to increases ventilation
  • Room temperature should be comfortable for a lightly-clothed adult, approximately 61-67 degree Fahrenheit
  • Cribs should be totally free of all loose blankets, stuffed animals and crib bumpers
  • Lay baby to sleep in an improved crib, on a firm mattress; do not let the baby sleep on soft things, like a couch, pillow, sheepskin, foam pad or waterbed
  • No smoking when pregnant or near baby
  • If possible, breastfeed baby
  • Offer a pacifier at bedtime
  • Co-sleeping should be in the same room but not the same bed or other sleep surface as parents

About aden + anais®: aden + anais was founded by two Australian mothers who missed their native muslin cotton swaddling blankets. After three years and nine muslin cotton baby products, aden + anais has received the Creative Child magazine 2007 Seal of Excellence and several prestigious iParenting Media Awards. www.adenandanais.com

Johnson’s Baby Shower Blog Tour

Oh man, we buy so much from Johnson’s and Johnson’s. We use their shampoo and body wash and their q-tips. The last time I had to put a gift basket together for a Baby Shower I used all Johnson’s and Johnson’s. You can purchase shampoo, body wash, bubble bath, diaper rash cream, and cotton swabs (PINK Baby Lotion, Gold Baby Shampoo, Head-To-Toe Wash, and Desitin).

It was for my cousin and it’s her first baby. Johnson’s products are so easy to use and the brand is so trusted. We grew up with it at my house, I think Johnson’s has the experience in the market. It’s been so memorable to me growing up and when I spoke with other moms in my MOMS club they all felt the same way. It is the brand they all grew up with and trust. So when they come out with a new product I’m up for trying it. Our Products

All of these products rank high on this list of frequently requested baby staples. They give a first-time Mom like my cousin the essentials she needs from day one. Did you know that some of the products can serve dual purposes. For instance, Johnson’s Baby Powder doubles as a deodorant or a dry shampoo to remove oils and grease in a hurry?

You could also consider saving space when traveling by using the same shampoo as your children (I do) or by using baby oil as shaving cream (ok, that is kind of weird, but I guess people do). It is amazing what I find out about companies and the products that I work with. People come up with all kinds of uses for one product and then they will share that with the company? Do you have any interesting uses for Johnson’s?

Lastly, Johnson’s recently expanded its Bedtime line with a new Bedtime Bubble Bath & Wash formulated with Naturalcalm essences, a unique blend of soothing aromas to help babies sleep better, the perfect touch to baby shower gift baskets. I love the way this stuff smells. It’s so soothing to me that I want to go to bed after giving the kids a bath.

Our Favorite Valentine’s Day Book to read with the kids

Snuggle Puppy (Boynton on Board)I always want to make sure my kids feel love. I hug them and snuggle them all the time, sometimes I think it’s more for me than it is for my babies. Since Valentine’s Day is for the young and old I wanted to share something with all of you. We love reading to them and they both have their favorite books. If you’re looking for a great book to read to your kids for Valentine’s Day, we Love Sandra Boynton and her book Snuggle Puppy.

Snuggle Puppy is a love song between a parent and her baby. I say baby as in child. It’s about unconditional love; something I hope that everyone can feel from time to time. The best thing in the world is when one of my children are in the middle of play and stop, run to me and throw their arms around me and give me a hug. I love you and then run back into the middle of their play.

Random Tuesday – In need of sleep, home, and community

Randomly Random every Monday night and its almost therapeutic.

randomtuesday Random Tuesday Thoughts Im Talking A Lot Of Shit Today

Just getting out those crazy ideas, like I’m so tired I think i could sleep standing except for the fact that my feet would fall out below me.

Both of my kids are eating too much and Grandma doesn’t care. It’s like, if only I could make her see that when we stay for two weeks the kids put on five pounds, it’s not a big deal for someone my size to put on weight light that but a 2 and 3 year old, it’s a huge difference in weight. Just don’t know what to do about it.

I’ve got to go pick some winners and hand out some prizes. I’ve been spending so much time trying to figure out what to do with my blog, niche, brand that I haven’t been responding to e-mails. But, I’m not home and products are stacking up with my husband anyways. I’m going to be in big trouble so I’m trying to just say nothing, but if it’s really interesting I’ll respond.

In a way, I can’t wait to get home. I’m in such need of my own bed, my husband and my kids in their own beds. My kids love their own rooms and own beds.

I’m addicted to fancast now that I found out about it on-line. I just love All My Children even though I know nothing about any of the characters anymore. WOW, it’s so different. But I can watch it on my computer so it’s perfect. I’ll figure it out soon enough.

Sleep, I wish I could catch up, stock up and then go without. Jennifer James at BlissDom said that she doesn’t sleep, that’s the only way she gets it all done. She is like the queen of community in my opinion. WOW, impressive.

I’ve been thinking about implementing a community on my site but not sure what to do. I was told I could just do a forum embedded in my site and others use The Blog Frog, but I just don’t know what I should do. What do you think?

So many ideas spinning around and no idea what to do or how to keep it all tame.

Donation from St. Eve Kids: Pink Cozy, a blanket with sleeves #giveaway

clip_image002St eve kids wrote to me and asked me if I would be willing to review their pink Cozys for kids. When they wrote to me they knew that my daughter was just a bit too young and that impressed me. Many companies do not get to know me or my family before they ask me to do all kinds of things. So I was so happy to accept their invitation to do a review. I knew that I could give it to someone in my MOMS Club or just use it as a donation. I’m going to donate it because it’s the perfect time of year to give someone an extra blanket; and what’s cooler than a blanket with sleeves?

How would I describe the Cozys made by St. eve kids?

SOFT and PINK and HAS SLEEVES

I’m pretty sure we’re all familiar with the concept because you can find these things for adults everywhere. My husband even received a green one from his work as a gift. I of course claimed it and use it from time to time.

St Eve Kids created a comfortable line of children’s sleepwear, loungewear and underwear. They make soft cuddly products that keep children warm at night. The cuddly blanket they sent me, the Cozy, is beautiful and quite warm. It has the texture of felt but is even softer in my opinion. It’s perfect for relaxing and being comfortable while watching tv or playing a board game. It’s perfect for someone like me that is always cold. I love to wear my sweatshirt by the sleeves. I just put my sleeves in so that I can keep my arms and hands warmer while I’m at the computer. I think that my circulation stops pumping to my arms and hands while I’m typing. These Cozy’s are made for children and fit ages 6-9. I was reading someone else’s review (I would quote them if I could remember whose site it was) and she said that her 4 year old was able to wear it. It was big on her but it still fit.

The St. Eve Cozy retails for $20.00 and is sold at Von Maur, Bon Ton stores and online through QVC. In February 2010, the Cozy will also be available on http://www.sleepwear.com.

Boys and girls alike will welcome a whole new world of playmates thanks to St. Eve Kid’s DramaU™ characters featured on the St. Eve Kid’s apparel. Meet Molly, Tommy, Tammy, Frankie, Johnny, Tweet, Shirley, Lulu, Peggy, Marky and Suzie – the bubbly characters, exclusive to St. Eve Kids, pop up on garments and make the perfect pals for kids bursting with personality and attitude. As an added bonus, St. Eve Kids is giving parents the opportunity to win a year supply of pajamas. For more information about this contest, visit www.DramaU.com.

About St. Eve Kids:
