Making New Years Resolutions and setting goals for next year

As I have been going through our Christmas Photos I see some things that I’m just not happy with. I have lost a little weight since my surgery but have come to realize that everything that I have lost has just been my muscle mass. Not doing anything makes those muscles go away fast. See all those round spots, tummy, hips, and thighs. And here I am eating milk and cookies for a bed time snack, it’s a great way to lose weight don’t you think. My excuse is that it’s not the first yet.

My goal is to get back into shape and I’ve got some blogging help to do it. One, I’m going to get back into the Fitness Friday Posts with the Wii Fit Mommies. Writing about my journey every week should help. Another thing I have to help with it is a set of four giveaways that are for me to review and to share with all of you. I’m very excited about sharing with you guys. My goal is 20 pounds before BlogHer2010.

I need to refocus my heart and give it back to God. I’m terrible about posting about Him because I’m afraid of offending my readers, but that’s not how I should act. So I’m going to try to have a devotion once a week, and not just for me but also for my children. My kids are understanding everything so they need to get to know their Maker too.

I need to get more organized. Since my blog took off this past year, I’m hoping that it will continue to grow. With growth comes a need to get organized again, I got behind with the madness of advertising and Christmas. I just completely lost my blog focus these last few months. I need to return e-mails in a more timely manner and be more choosy. I need to organize my blog as well. I need to also figure out how to organize my time better. Sometimes I wonder how some of these successful mom bloggers get all this blogging done and raise their family. I’ve been able to post about four or five posts since my surgery because I can’t do anything else other than be on the computer. When my husband goes back to work and I’m left alone with the kids I’m going to have to make time come out of thin air to get everything done. Which is another reason I’m going to need to be choosy on what I do and do not blog about.

I need to be more personable. I want to comment on more blogs. I want to try and visit more people and comment more and be more thankful of what all of my readers provide to me. I know that I give you guys a lot with the sheer amount of giveaways but none of it would be possible if I didn’t have any readers.

I hope to reach 2,000 RSS subscribers and 10,000 twitter followers in the next year. I know that if I write more interesting content I’ll have more subscribers and followers. So I’m going to try to make a few new weekly articles. Like cooking with the kids and bring in more information for Mom Start Saving.

I need to save more money with coupons and monetize my blog. I currently use Juice Box Jungle and highly recommend it. I also write the occasional sponsored review for Sponsored Reviews and Blogvertise. I also like to sell some advertisement space. I know that I’m barely tapping into the potential that is there but my kids come first so we’ll see how much actually changes over the next year. But using coupons and saving money can be just as lucrative as having another job and I’ll show you that this year.

So to Summarize:

My New Years Resolutions are

Lose Weight

Focus on God

Get Organized

Be more Social

Increase Blog Stats/Improve Content

Save/Make money

Merry Christmas from my family to yours

family

Mom Start wants to wish you a very Merry Christmas. I hope you has a great time with your family and just enjoyed each other without too many antics. I know in-laws can be crazy and so can blood relatives. I don’t have any crazy stories to tell, and if I did they probably read my blog so I can’t share them. Love to read yours though!

Today we made Christmas Cookies for Santa

Last night before I went to bed I told my husband that I wanted to do something very Christmassy. He asked me what that might be, something without leaving the house so I picked making cookies. I have such fond memories of making cookies and even further back when my great grandmother would send the biggest box of cookies for all of her grandchildren and great grandchildren to share.

Today, even though I was having the worst time staying awake my husband kicked me out of bed and said let’s get this family day started. At first I was startled but then I was embarrassed because I was the one that couldn’t keep my eyes open. Next thing I knew we were at the grocery store getting the needed supplies for cookies, special cookies.

We made Fiesta Fudge Cookies and Raspberry Linzer Cookies  but we had to change them to Strawberry instead.

Cookies with our children today made it even more fun. We made a complete family event out of it. I had to take breaks and rest my sides, they are still sensitive, but it was so much fun and really lifted my much needed spirits.

Fiesta Fudge Cookies by Betty Crocker

1/3 cup butter or margarine
6 oz unsweetened chocolate
1 can (14 oz) sweetened condensed milk (not evaporated)
1 pouch (1 lb 1.5 oz) Betty Crocker® sugar cookie mix
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
60 white and chocolate-striped candy drops or pieces, unwrapped

1. Heat oven to 350°F. In large microwavable bowl, microwave butter and chocolate on High 1 minute. Stir; microwave on High 1 minute longer or until butter is melted and chocolate can be stirred smooth.
2. Stir condensed milk into chocolate mixture. Stir in cookie mix and cinnamon until well blended.
3. Using 1 level tablespoonful of dough for each cookie, shape into 60 balls. Place 2 inches apart on ungreased cookie sheets.
4. Bake 6 to 7 minutes or until edges lose their shiny look (do not overbake). Immediately press 1 candy into center of each cookie. Cool cookies on cookie sheet 5 minutes; remove from cookie sheets. To get candy to spread slightly on top of cookie, tap edge of each cookie lightly. Cool completely. Store covered at room temperature.

High Altitude (3500-6500 ft): Bake 8 to 9 minutes.

Raspberry Linzer Cookies found in Cooking Light

Yield: 32 cookies (serving size: 1 cookie)

Ingredients

  • 2  cups  all-purpose flour (about 9 ounces)
  • 1/2  teaspoon  baking soda
  • 1/4  teaspoon  salt
  • 1/4  teaspoon  ground cinnamon
  • 3/4  cup  granulated sugar
  • 1/2  cup  butter, softened
  • 1/4  cup  egg substitute
  • 1/4  cup  seedless raspberry jam  (substituted Strawberry)
  • 2  teaspoons  powdered sugar

Preparation

Lightly spoon flour into dry measuring cups; level with a knife. Combine flour, baking soda, salt, and cinnamon, stirring well with a whisk.

Place granulated sugar and butter in a large bowl; beat with a mixer at high speed until light and fluffy. Add egg substitute; beat until well blended. Beating at low speed, gradually add flour mixture; beat just until a soft dough forms. Divide dough into 2 equal portions, and wrap each dough portion in plastic wrap. Chill at least 1 hour.

Preheat oven to 375°.

Roll each dough portion into a 1/8-inch thickness on a lightly floured surface; cut with a 2-inch square cookie cutter with fluted edges to form 32 cookies. Repeat procedure with remaining dough portion. Place cookies 1 inch apart on parchment-lined baking sheets. Cut out centers of 32 cookies with a 1-inch square cookie cutter with fluted edges. Bake cookies at 375° for 10 minutes or until edges are lightly browned. Cool on pans 5 minutes. Remove from pans; cool completely on wire racks.

Spread center of each whole cookie with about 1/2 teaspoon jam. Sprinkle cut-out cookies with powdered sugar. (A) Place 1 cut-out cookie on top of each whole cookie.

You have to understand how hard it is for me to relax and let the kitchen turn into a disaster. So I let that side of me go and we had an awesome time. I think it helped that I knew I wouldn’t have to clean up the mess because of my surgery. So I can’t complain, we had an awesome Christmas Eve as a family.

VTech’s generous toy donation, and some sales for you to enjoy

VTech asked me if I was interested in a donation for my community toy drive. I told them that I would love that. It was very kind of them to chip in and very generous. It’s going to touch quite a few children. Before they even sent confirmation that anything was going to show up four boxes showed up on my porch.

vtechThree of the boxes were very large. They said they were only sending eight items:

3 VMotions

2 Kidizooms

3 Jungle Gym Turtles

http://www.vtechkids.com/

However, each box was full so we received 4 Vmotions (60),  2 Kidizooms (60), and 4 Jungle Gym Turtles (30). Total 480. Thank you for the wonderful donation.

Tom’s of Maine Natural Toothpaste Review and Giveaway

I have quite a few troubles getting my kids to brush my teeth. In attempt to find ways to make brushing more enjoyable, I asked my MOMS Club about their brushing techniques. Switching to Tom’s of Maine was one of the suggestions sent to me.

Tom’s of Maine has a natural toothpaste for kids in Silly Strawberry flavor. So it’s a fun flavor that kids can use because it doesn’t have any fluoride. They use calcium and silica to gently clean the teeth, and the delicious real fruit flavor has even me wanting to use it.

Tom’s of Maine sent me a tube of the children’s anticavity with Fluoride. I think they meant to send me the one without fluoride so I could use it with my kids, but it’s only 2.95 and I’ve seen coupons for it so you can get it even cheaper. It’s good to use. As I said, I like the taste, my kids like the taste.

Now Tom’s of Maine has made a suggestion to me. They said that I should create a silly routine for my kids to brush their teeth to. I never thought of that, and I did a search online and I found that my friend Felicia at Go Graham Go has a great silly brushing technique.

That’s how you can enter this giveaway!

Provide Clean Water by buying a PUR water filter #giveaway

We are lucky in America to have clean water. I never really considered this fact until this year with some controversy that came up. So now that it’s on my mind I feel like maybe I should help. And if the only way I can help is to support companies that are out there making a difference then that’s what I’m going to do.

4,000 children in developing countries die every day from illness and disease related to unsafe drinking water.  PUR along with its not-for-profit partner, the Children’s Safe Drinking Water Program (CSDW), is committed to alleviating this global crisis by providing clean drinking water to those in need.

In January, which is right around the corner,  PUR is partnering with “Summit on the Summit” (SOTS), a celebrity climb of Mt. Kilimanjaro featuring Jessica Biel, Alexandra Cousteau and others that will raise awareness and funds for clean drinking water efforts. Find out more HERE.

Dr. Greg Allgood, Founder and Director of CSDW, will be joining the climb as the water authority, educating the climbers on the global water crisis and what is being done to help.

PUR is asking for our help:

  • When you buy a PUR, you’re not only helping your family get clean water, but a family across the world.
  • 1 System = 1 Week: For every PUR system purchase, one week of clean drinking water is provided to a child in the developing world through CSDW. To-date, CSDW has already provided 1.8 billion liters of clean water to children and their families around the world.

Can you imagine not having clean water? I can’t, I’m a sad spoiled person that hates drinking the water that comes out of the tap at my dad’s house. Their water comes from the local lake and I can taste the dirt. Shame on me for being so picky. There is water out there that is so foul it makes children sick. So let’s make a difference.

Why Is PUR a Smart Choice for Families?

Click to enlarge· By simply using a PUR water filter, you will remove many of the common contaminants found in drinking water. Including: 94% of atrazine, 98% of lead and other metals, 99.9% of microbial cysts and 96-99% of pharmaceuticals.

· Switching from bottled water to filtered water and a reusable bottle can save one person up to $600 a year and eliminate up to 3,200 plastic bottles.

PUR is offering one of my readers a PUR Pitcher in celebration of this upcoming event!

Safeway Savings, Last minute recipes and Safeway has two days left in their 12 days of savings

Free DeliveryCan you get your hands on an advertisement for Safeway. I found mine in the Sunday paper and wished I had looked at it sooner. There were coupons for one free item every day for 12 days leading up to Christmas. They were awesome products and I wished I was in better condition to get out and fare the crowds.

I love using coupons and Safeway often has their own coupons. I check each ad looking over the coupons and scouring for the best prices on my groceries. With Safeway, you can order your groceries on-line and have them delivered. Their delivery service (free for first time users – a bonus for hectic mothers everywhere.) has been quite a welcome treat when we have used it. We actually stopped using it because my husband was receiving free shipping through work and they took that bonus away so we stopped using it. It’s a shame because taking two kids to the grocery store hardly ever goes well.

Another way that Safeway is trying to help families is with their time saving recipes. Safeway saves the day with their last minute recipe ideas. When you face the kitchen in the next few days do not fear. You can just do a search and find a great entertaining recipe for your holiday guests. You can choose from their main course dishes, 15 minute recipes, and 30 minute recipes.

They have an Exclusive 2-Hour Turkey Recipe so save time and money by using Safeway on-line and in your kitchen.

Safeway is sending me a 50.00 Gift Card so that I can show you just how far I can make 50.00 go. I’m up for the challenge of saving my family time and money at Safeway.
