Do you send out Christmas Cards or e-mail them?

The first year I was married I sent out Christmas Cards to everyone we knew. We already had the family list in our database so it was really easy to mail out cards. We made homemade cards out of a water color drawing that I did. So we just printed everything including the mailing addresses. The next year we had a computer crash and our database was never backed up so I used that as an excuse to not send out cards. So I haven’t sent out cards since.

When my daughter was born I didn’t send out birth announcements. I can’t imagine how people get that done after the birth of a child. We never sent out Birth Announcements  for my son either. But last year we did send out some magnets to everyone.

This year I’ve been receiving cards from companies that I’ve been working with and I’ve been wondering if I should be sending them cards as well. I mean it would be the nice thing to do but what do I send.  I also want to teach my children a better example. If they see me doing Christmas cards or birthday cards then they will learn to do it too. Do you think e-mail cards are good enough, or what about Birthday Cards? My daughter’s birthday is so close to Christmas that her Birthday presents and cards all come at the same time.

How do you send your birthday cards or does it depend on the person? Do you send some people real cards or is that old fashioned? I’m just wondering what is becoming the norm. with everyone turning to on-line. I think e-cards seem to be acceptable now. What do I teach my kids and am I just being crazy?

Someone asked in a comment if I like receiving real cards.

Yes I do, I agree that cards mean so much more when they are delivered in the mail and you open them and you can place them on the mantel. I love receiving cards, it’s just so hard to mail them. Don’t know why making that trip to the mail box is so difficult though.

I send out Christmas cards. I send birthday greetings both with mailed cards and ecards – just depends on the person and what’s going on in my life.

What about you? Do you enjoy getting cards, announcements etc. in the mail? I do. I like to be able to look at them. Maybe it is just me but ecards seem sort of a cop out. I send out cards but not enough. I feel guilty when I get a Christmas card and I did not send them one. I think actually sending cards makes it more real when you are teaching your children.

I sent all of my Christmas cards this year with a few mouse clicks right from my computer. I designed it, uploaded my contacts and told it to send them. They personalized each card, printed them, put them in an envelope, addressed them, stamped them and sent them out. All for about a buck a card plus postage.

In the past, I’ve neglected to send cards because I was too busy. But, as mom always said – it’s the thought that counts, right? I guess that doesn’t always cut it. ;-)

I feel the same about e-cards anniesmom. It’s just not as personal.

Roxanne – who was that through?

I haven’t sent cards for a few years. I always have some sort of excuse. Mostly it is that I can’t find the perfect photo so I just end up running out of time. I do feel guilty when I receive them from others.

I do think it is better for the environment to send an ecard though. I hate throwing out cards, but I also can’t handle the clutter. I have been giving them to my son to cut up – he is enjoying practicing cutting!

This year I feel particularly guilty, and am wondering if I should make cards and send them, but it seems overwhelming since I would have to get addresses from a lot of people. I think I will email an update and attach some pics from throughout the year.

We exchange Christmas Cards At Church, so everyone can save on the postage. For family and all others we send to that don’t attend the same church we mail.

  6. I send cards and I love receiving them, especially if there’s a photo! I always write a short personal note on the card and more if it’s someone who doesn’t use a computer much and doesn’t “get” reading a blog to keep up with my family stuff on my family blog.
