Giveaway updated: Seagate Free Agent Theater+ HD and FreeAgent Go portable drives

seagate Seagate sent me one of the FreeAgent Theater + HD Media Players to review. Then a week later while I was thinking about what I was going to do with it another one showed up with a Hard Drive included. So then I was able to review it.

Product Description:

freeagent theaterThe FreeAgent Theater+ HD media player leverages a docking system unique to Seagate FreeAgent Go™ portable drives and accessories, providing a quick and easy way to connect your external hard drive to your television or home entertainment center. After loading the drive with your favorite movies, videos, music and pictures freeagent theaterfrom the home PC, simply slide it into the FreeAgent Theater+ dock to get instant access to your digital media library. With the FreeAgent Theater+ player, you can just sit back, relax, point, click and enjoy as digitally captured memories and your favorite movies come to life in 1080p HD video, DTS™ 2.0 + Digital Out, or Dolby Digital technology.

freeagent theaterThe interface is easily navigated with the included remote control, and you can choose from video, photos or music with the up/down arrows on the remote to make your selection.

The Seagate FreeAgent Theater+ HD media player includes two additional USB ports for connecting other USB attached storage devices. Also incorporated into FreeAgent Theater+ is an Ethernet port for network connectivity, which allows access to digital media through your home network. Seagate intends to launch a USB Wireless Adapter in October to enable this same access with 802.11n wireless connectivity to a home network. Enjoy it all, with the included new and improved remote control, from the comfort of your couch.

In a language you can understand:

FreeAgent is a way to save all of your media in one place and keep your computer storage down. Not only does it hold all of your media but you can hook it directly to your cable and to your tv, making it your one stop media outlet.

Copying over your music, movies, and photos is a breeze and takes no time at all. Seagate makes great hard drives. We’ve been using them in our home built machines so I’m really happy with the hard drive. I’m just not fond of the user interface.

The user interface is very easy to use it is just lacking subfolders. You have a folder for your photos but when you are coping them over it doesn’t copy subfolders over. All it did was find every picture on my hard drive and copied them over onto it’s hard drive and then they were all in one folder. It makes finding a specific movie, song or photo extremely difficult when you are talking about 500 GB’s of data.

I also have a Window’s Media Center Machine that takes care of all of my media. I wanted to see how the two compare. The comparison is that there is quite a bit of difference. I didn’t get to spend very much time with it before my husband gave it to his sister. So that must say something about the quality. It was good enough to give to family and to me that says a lot.

The portable drive is amazing though and completely worth the money.

F-Secure online shopping wishes you a very Merry Christmas #giveaway and Sale

I find that shopping on-line is very convenient. Taking a child out shopping and remembering a snack a toy or whatever you might need is enough trouble. Add another child and no snacks then you’re entering a big mess. I as do many moms get quite a headache while out shopping with both of my children. I also hate shopping from now until Christmas, just the traffic drives me insane. I get really grumpy going out with all of the attitudes. So I like to stay in and shop on-line. I use Amazon a lot because my husband feels that they have a very secure site.

F-Secure wants to make more families feel safe and secure about all of their on-line shopping.

Toothpaste Stages and when is it time to change

DoraTheexplorer When talking to my stepmother about brushing my children’s teeth she told me that they didn’t brush our teeth until we lost our baby teeth. Hmm. That wasn’t the advice I was looking for when I needed to know what to do about my kids teeth.

So we have deferred to the professionals here.

As a baby you are supposed to wash their gums. To do this you can use a wash cloth or buy a gum massager that you can place on your thumb or index finger and you can clean their gums. You can continue to do this until they reach the ability to spit. Or you can start using stages toothbrushes and toothpaste.

Colgate sent me some toothpaste and toothbrushes to try out. They didn’t need to because Colgate already is our favorite brand of toothpaste that we use regularly. On our kids we haven’t purchased in fluoride toothpaste yet. That is why we are going to donate the supplies that Colgate sent to us. The supplies that they sent to us where Dora the Explorer, loved by both my daughter and my son. We have purchased the Dora toothbrushes before, but since we have to replace them every three months, I sometimes purchase what’s cheapest, so right now we have Darby from my friends Tigger and Pooh which is another brand. Sorry Colgate, I’m one of those shoppers that purchase what’s on sale.

For years, Dora the Explorer™ has taken kids on countless journeys, helping them overcome obstacles and solve problems on the way to a common goal.  Now, in celebration of a decade of Dora, kids can explore a new challenge – discovering the path to healthy smiles with Dora the Explorer™ Toothpaste and an assortment of Toothbrushes from Colgate®.

Specially designed for kids ages 2 and up, the Dora the Explorer™ Anti-Cavity Fluoride Toothpaste in a Mild Bubble Fruit® flavor is clinically proven to defend against cavities while strengthening and protecting developing teeth.  Plus, the Dora Toothbrushes featuring soft bristles and non-slip cushioned handles are available in two styles – one specially designed for kids with developing teeth, and the other featuring a small “battery-operated” rotating head that cleans teeth and gently sweeps away plaque. The combination of the Dora the Explorer™ Anti-Cavity Fluoride Toothpaste and Toothbrushes will encourage brushing and have both kids and moms singing, “We Did It! ¡Lo hicimos!”

The Dora the Explorer™ Toothpaste ($2.79) and Toothbrushes ($2.49 – $5.99) are available online (www.colgate.com/kids) or at major retailers across the country.

We have been using toothpaste that is considered to be pre-brushing stage. It has no fluoride but has some flavor that helps encourage brushing. From there as they learn how to spit the Dentist has recommended that we move over to fluoride toothpaste.

Then we will also move them over to an electric spinning brush because our dentist has also recommended that an electric toothbrush will help keep their teeth cleaner. The spinning action removes more plaque than hand brushing.

One final note from me, we love adding things like toothbrushes to stockings. It makes them quite happy to receive a character toothbrush. So it’s easy to buy a necessity and include it in Christmas fun.

Colgate is also wanting to provide one of my readers with a package of goodies.

(close to a 15 – 20 value depending on if you receive an electric toothbrush or not)

So, I changed my mind for now about changing my theme

My husband has been helping me get my blog ready to change themes. He wrote some script for me today so that as I write my new posts the things I need for my new theme will be automatically created.

For instance, my new theme needs a thumbnail for every post. Uhh, I don’t use wordpress when I’m writing my posts so setting up a thumbnail would be like 10 to 15 minutes extra after I became accustomed to the change. I’m all about AUTOMATED. I did add the new featured content plug in though and that will be my new toy until I get myself enough posts to use the new theme. I’m too lazy to go back through my posts to create thumbnails.

I’m also going to change my background and header. I already created a new header but the color is all wrong for the background so I’m going to have to make a new one again. I’m very picky. I have to have things balanced and yes, my sidebars are a little bit of an issue for me at the moment.

My husband is all about taking care of me, especially if it means he gets to write some code.

Scholastic Publishing presents Christmas to kids in two sure to be Holiday Favorites

Both_BookCovers_Together

The Nutcracker

The Christmas Magic

Scholastic sent me both of these books to preview and share with my children. I’m very happy to report that they are awesome books. The pictures in each are well worth of separate reviews.

Nutcracker and the Mouse King spread 1 The Nutcracker is a play that all of us are familiar with, but did you know that before Tchaikovsky turned it into a ballet it was a book written by ETA Hoffman.

The Nutcracker and The Mouseking is brought to children ages 4 and up by Gail de Marcken with beautiful illustrations. My children are still too young to sit and listen to this story. I tried my hardest to read a page as fast as I could but all they wanted to do was turn the page and look at the next illustration. With 56 pages this is a great re-telling of The Nutcracker.

ChristmasMagic_Book_Spread_one The Christmas Magic is all about how Santa Claus delivers all of those toys to all of those children. This is another book with very beautiful illustrations. With only 40 pages this one is a little bit easier to get through, there are fewer words on each page so my children were able to sit through this one. Well, my daughter was, my son only made it halfway through.

So way up north, when the nights are longest and the stars shine brightest, Santa begins to prepare for his big night of giving. The reindeer are very excited and know that the magic will soon be here. Santa gathers them, feeds them parsnips and berries, and polishes his bells and his sled. Everyone is very excited about the magic that is coming.

“Then lovingly, he chooses toys for every child in the world. For Santa loves them all, and he knows what each child at heart wants most. Then, with the thrum of magic that makes reindeers fly, he spreads the Christmas joy and warmth throughout the world–as he always has — and always will until the end of time.”

I love reading to my kids and know that I am guilty of not doing it enough. They ask so many questions and make so many inferences just my looking and listening to me. Their comprehension is amazing and so are these pictures. They both make great picture books to my children’s imagination.

Scholastic has generously offered us a set of these books to giveaway.
