Star Trek was released in May of this past year and I wasn’t able to see it until recently. I have been watching it every night after the children go to bed. It is amazing in my opinion. It’s a great re-vamp to a long living legacy created by Gene Roddenberry. I have been watching Star Trek since Star Trek Next Generation was created. I would stay up late at my moms house and watch it. It was my favorite thing to watch and I watched it all by myself. It’s funny that my husband tells the same story.
From there he watched it all. I wasn’t interested in Deep Space Nine so I missed out on most of Voyager but thanks to Netflix we have watched all of every series, except the original series. We have all of the movies and watch them often. Right now we’re watching Star Trek the very first movie released. Just to compare the character likenesses.
For the new movie, J.J. Abrams does not disappoint. I was crazy about Alias and now I’m crazy about Star Trek. He has quite the talent at directing. The movie begins with the birth of Kirk and the murder of his father and over half the crew he captained. The next scene Kirk is starting his fast track for trouble by driving his father’s car as fast as possible.
In the next scene we meet Ohura and find out why Kirk enters the Federation training program. Thankfully it skips ahead to his attempt at early graduation and all of the cadets are sent to Vulcan on a rescue mission. The Cadets are massacred all except for Enterprise and the adventure continues. The action is non stop and the musical score is exceptional. I’m hoping that it ends up in my Christmas Stocking.
So please laugh at me or tell me that you are secretly a Trekkie too.
We have wanted to see it since it came out, too, and haven’t gotten around to it! Hopefully this weekend we’ll be able to rent it & finally get to see it – I watched all of the next generations in college, and we watched voyager and enterprise (was that the one with scott bakula? I’m not sure of the title…) anyway, I cannot wait to see this, too!
I love it. I saw it opening weekend and look forward to buying it to add to my collection. I love how it is both true to charactors and yet totally attainable to the Star Trek Novice. One of the people I saw it with had not seen any Star Trek before (I know hard to imagine)and loved it.
I am so right with you, im such a nerd that I even designed packaging for star trek at my last job… hat means I have star trek toys, lots of em.
