J Banz by Baby Banz

I really enjoy Baby Banz, another great company that I worked with when I was a manager at a children’s boutique. We would sell these like hot cakes; we only carried them in the summer but I think if we had them all year round we would have sold them all year. The sun comes out in the winter time too you know.

image

This is my diva. She loves to dress up and loves to wear her shads. We just got a pair of Jbanz, now you might ask, why did you get Jbanz instead of Baby Banz or the Kids Banz. Well, we decided to go with JBanz because our children have larger than average head sizes. JBanz start at a size five. They are just a tad big for her, but they stay on her head and are comfortable. They also provide her young eyes protection from the sun. It’s because they are so very smart(that they have big heads). My daughter is building computers and my son is talking. He talks more than my daughter and I put together.

New! Junior Banz by Baby BanzJunior BanZ feature UV400 Polarized polycarbonate lenses and sturdy frames, while offering new shapes and temples for the protection and style older kids want. Junior BanZ come with their own solid pink neoprene carrying case complete with zipper clasp as well as a removable neoprene strap for active girls on the go!

They came in a nice pink case and with straps as you can tell from the product description above. We have since lost the sunglasses. I have no idea where they are. I hope they are in the van, but it’s also possible I need to turn the house upside down to find them. We might have placed them somewhere while we were out but that is very unlike my daughter. She just doesn’t take them off of her head. She loves hats and glasses.

Baby Banz makes sunglasses, clothing, hats, and swimsuits. Their hats and swimwear are up to 50SPF.

What is the UV protection of Banz Sun Hatz?

Baby Banz Sun Hatz are the best in the market for protection and breathability. Our Hatz are made of 100% Cotton/100% Polyester and offer UPF protection of 50+. Others’ hats made of synthetic materials do a good job of keeping the sun off, but make the head hot because they don’t let air in and under the hat. And as most parents know, if the hat is comfortable, it is more likely to stay on little heads!

I get crazy looks sometimes when I’m out and about and won’t let my mom or dad buy my children hats to wear outside unless they have protection from the sun. You can get a sunburn or skin damage under your clothing. It is best to put on sun block every day before you get dressed and wear SPF clothing. It does cost more to have this safety net but it is better than getting skin cancer.

(****I am not an expert, this is my opinion, you should talk to your doctor if you have any concerns*********)

That Baby CD/DVD Giveaway

You know when you are watching your kids so something cute and you want to capture it on camera, you run get the camera, turn it on and they stare at you and start crying? That was me when I was trying to capture my kids dancing to That Baby DVD. My daughter has started doing this sway when she sings or hears a slow song and if she hears a faster song then she jumps up and starts dancing.

I love hearing my daughter’s voice and she likes That Baby DVD and CD. I like it too. The songs are up to date by famous musicians. It’s a CD the whole family can enjoy. I like the DVD better than Baby Einstein. Comparing them probably isn’t very fair though since they are completely different. The only similarity is they make a  unique baby gift . You can purchase That Baby DVD and That Baby CD at www.thatbabydvd.com or Amazon, and some local stores (to you) will carry it.

They are extremely local to me. The company is a Washington company. The dad of the children works by day at Microsoft which is also where my husband works. At night he is super dad, running this business and having fun with his children. From my e-mail correspondence with Rob he seems like such a great guy with a vision for children’s music.

“We don’t think of the music we create as ‘children’s music,’” says Rob. “We aim to create music that the whole family can enjoy, including children. Kids today are fully capable of rocking out, and parents want music that they can enjoy too as they drive the minivan around town or prepare dinner. Coupled with visuals that are colorful, varied, and unconventional, our products are a welcome change from the ordinary in kids’ entertainment.”

It’s my party and I’ll Cry if I want to

Dear Sabra,

I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for hosting my part. My party plans were huge, I invited 42 moms and their children to my Mediterranean themed party. I bought Costco sized packages of veggies and crackers, and chips. I saw that only two people RSVP’d but I didn’t let that get me down. Last time I threw a party my driveway was so full. We had an overcrowded house. This time no one showed up, I was sick (I wanted to cancel anyways) and it snowed. I was so depressed (Even though I wanted to cancel I was still depressed that no one came). I fed my children and my son was covered in hummus. I was too depressed to take a picture of it.

So what did i do today. Today, I crashed my friend’s party. I guess I didn’t exactly crash her party. I was invited, but I took all my party supplies over to her house to share them and it was so much fun. I had THE best time. I talked with other moms and my children played. They played with out needed me the whole time. My daughter is usually very shy and wants me to be right next to her, but today; she played with her brother and other friends. Moms really need to take a break for themselves.

Summer throws awesome parties. The hummus was greatly received as well. My friend Pei said she liked it, she could eat it even though she was on the cleanse diet. Her daughter Ava ate it as well and it isn’t something that her daughter will usually eat. YUMMY Sabra.

I will add pictures and video in the morning of the party I crashed. ***UPDATE*** with video, pictures are still on the way. Darn digital equipment. I wish it was ALL wireless.

Thanks again,

Louise

Tutor Match Giveaway

Keywords: advice, answers, asking ...
File Size: 472 KB
Provided by: iStockphoto.com

My Short Opinion:

Tutor Match is free to parents and to students. It only costs if you are a tutor and want to advertise your services. I think it’s a good way to find tutors in your area if you live on-line. If I needed a tutor, I would ask my MOMS Club who they recommend. My kids aren’t old enough yet anyways.

Here’s how it works:

Tutors  – which can be work at home moms and dads, teachers, or just about anybody willing to work with students – can sign up to list their profile on TutorMatch.com.  There is a free listing option, which is limited to one subject, or for only $19 for 6 months or $29 for 1 year Tutors can list as many subjects as they want in our premium listing category.   TutorMatch only lists their profile and protects their identity.  We don’t take any money from the actual tutoring sessions, that is all completely negotiated between the tutors and students.

Parents and students can then search for either local tutors near them or online tutors anywhere in the world, for free.  We don’t disclose the tutors’ last names or their contact info, and we don’t ask parents or students to sign up or enter any of their contact info to us.  When they find a tutor they would like to interview, only then do they enter either their phone number or email address, whatever they are comfortable with.  They do not disclose their identity to anyone they don’t want to.

You Can Win

Three people can win 1 free 6 month premium memberships.

How to Enter:

Visit Tutor Match and see if you think it would be a good fit for you.

Tea Shop Girls

Teashop Girls cover

Living in Seattle we are very close to Victoria. The Canadians have tea a lot and when i was in Victoria with my husband on our Honeymoon I developed a liking for tea. I wanted to review this book because of the title. Teashop Girls

The Teashop girls is a book about friendship over tea. It’s more than that really. Laura Schaefer has written a very nice book about teenagers rallying together. Annie is 13 years old and as summer comes after the end of middle school her best friends are going different directions. They are doing activities while she is working in the tea shop they grew up in. It was there that they called themselves the Teashop girls and created their rules about their club.

"1) Teashop Girls are best friends forever.

2) Tea is held every week, no matter what.

3) All tea and scones must be split equally at all times."

When it became apparent that her grandmother might lose the shop she decided to get their help. This book is a coming of age book for girls and deals with romance in a realistic way. For the Tea Lovers there are recipes and anecdotes about tea. Visit www.teashopgirls.com for more information on the book and author.

Veggie Tales – An Easter Carol

AN EASTER CAROL VEGGIETALES DVD

Bob and Larry just never stop do they? We have seen pirates, we have seen inventors, and now an Easter Carol?

Yes this story is inspired by the Christmas Carol written by Charles Dickens but it has an Easter Twist. Ebenezer Nezzer is way to busy with chocolate and chickens and trying to fill London with plastic eggs. We haven’t celebrated Easter with our children as most families do. I haven’t decorated eggs or hunted candy with my daughter. The Easter bunny doesn’t make a stop at our house. I just don’t find a reason for that. That’s the commercialized Easter. Easter is about God and how he died and gave his life for us. All of us. He gave us a gift. He gave us eternal life and that is how we celebrate our Easter, or at least that is my intention.

In an Easter Carol Rebecca Saint James is an angel that with Bob and Larry’s help have to teach Ebenezer Nezzer about the real meaning of Easter in one night.  As always my daughter is left saying “again”. I thought it was pretty cute and Rebecca’s music is fantastic. You know, Veggie Tales doesn’t make me laugh until my sides hurt but it does make me smile. It makes me warm and happy with a great message and the humor is just enough to turn my lips up.  You can purchase Veggie Tales Easter Carol for 9.99 or you can watch it. Watch the Television Premier on Gospel Music Channel on DirecTV ch. 338 and local cable April 10th, 7pm ET

This weekend when you are celebrating Easter you should greet one another.

Billboard – The Noticer

Coming Soon!

Momstart will be providing a giveaway in honor of The Noticer Project.

by bestselling author of "The Traveler’s Gift" Andy Andrews, which is all about gaining fresh perspective on life by noticing the little things. How you choose to recognize the five people who made a special impact on your life can take many forms-by joining The Noticer Project Facebook group, by publicity posting on TheNoticerProject.com, by posting a note on your personal Facebook site or blog, or even just sending individual emails. The basic point is to offer hope and encouragement in these tough times through the simple act of recognizing someone significant to you

I think a great way is to do something like my post a few weeks ago. First Five. Of course Facebook seems to be a great way to drop a very quick note to someone you want to push cheer on. I’m always getting hugs and smiles.

Hosting Food Network Challenge

I was able to participate in a phone interview with Keegan and ask him questions about Food Network Challenge and their new mini series Last Cake Standing.

Tonight is the premier of Last Cake Standing. This reality TV series is like some of their other reality tv shows. They are pushing these pastry chefs to their breaking points to see who has what it takes to have the last cake standing. Keegan described the competitors as being tough and that they learned more about themselves than they did about making cakes.

The stress of competing is what gets to most of the competitors. Keegan’s advice is for competitors to come prepared. You may not practice making the exact cake but come with ideas and something simple, because time management is the first thing to go out the window and you have to allow time for something to go wrong because something always will.

He is also the pastry chef I would call on if I could afford him, if I lived in the area he works in and needed a Yoda cake. He said that for him, making cakes has to be interesting to him. He can carve it if it his into it. Otherwise, it’s not something he wants to do.

I asked Keegan what his favorite off set location was and he said selfishly it would be Hawaii, but for the show, Disney World. When you combine, Food Network Challenge to Disney, then magic happens. One of the competitions was for the contestants to be released into the park and finding someone to make a cake for.

There are a few older episodes that are Disney inspired. There was the Disney princess cakes, and the Disney character cakes.

I also wanted to know what his personal greatest disaster was and he was actually kind enough to tell all of us. It was for a restaurant he used to work for and Baked Alaskan was their specialty dessert. Well, he made enough of the frozen part to serve 2000 people and thought his part of the job was over. Well, later he finds out that the freezer he put all of it in was broken so he had to scrounge together people and desserts to serve to 2000 people. The head table was still able to have Baked Alaskan but everyone else got whatever could be found. Luckily, only one person wrote and asked about that Baked Alaskan.

My final question was how he came to be the host. I asked him why he chose to be the host and well he says he didn’t. There used to be a show on Food Network where they covered a national competition and there was no host. So there was a lot of dead sound (crowd noise from the competition) He was one of the competitors there and it just sort of fell on him to start hosting. He became the host as the show changed into Food Network Challenge. (at least this is my understanding of what he said.) It is very hard to participate in an interview when your children are crying in the background (but I LOVE THEM dearly) I also can’t wait for my next invitation to do an interview.

Keegan enjoys hosting the show and working with the judges. The audience constantly wants to know his favorites and he is constantly biting his tongue. He has to say I just like cakes, even if he does have a favorite. Just remember, he does like cakes, he is a pastry chef.
