Dudley’s Solo

What another great book to read to children. My daughter received this book to review and she has asked me to read it to her over and over again. Most books we sit and read once and then grab another book. This one she picks up and says read mom, and then she says read again mom, read again. I’m thinking, I’ve read it three times in a row, as cute as it is I don’t want to read it again.

Why does she like it so much?

I’m not really sure. I think she likes the colors, and that their are a lot of children in the story. Dudley is deaf and he does not let that stop him. He wants to be like all the other kids around him. He is in a choir and he signs, all the children were given a solo except for him. He told the other children how he felt and they helped him.

Why do I like this book?

I like this book because it encourages children to face their difficulties and live normal lives. The children take it upon themselves to help Dudley. In the bible Timothy talks about how youth should not let their age discourage them from doing things. I believe this. We need to encourage young ones to do great things.

Tiffany Alexander believes it is possible to teach children to embrace the qualities that make them different. In her new children’s book, "Dudley’s Solo" (Alexander Vision LLC, March 2009), Alexander reveals how positive attitudes can change the way we tackle obstacles in our lives. She speaks to kids and parents alike on embracing our differences, being thankful for our God-given talents and realizing the importance of helping others.

"Growing up visually impaired had a tremendous impact on my life," says Alexander, who was legally blind until middle school. "I could do what most of the kids could do, but I always had limitations. As hard as it was to be different, I gained inner-strength and the desire to persevere no matter what."

"Children’s band was instrumental in my spiritual and social growth. Like Dudley, this is where I received my earliest encouragement," Alexander says. "The other kids and I learned the importance of volunteering, being a good citizen, and mostly importantly, I learned that I could do anything if I put my mind to it."

"Dudley’s Solo" encourages kids to

have self-confidence and to believe in themselves

embrace their differences

never give up on something you really want and

find the positive lesson in every challenge they are handed.

Rest Living in the Sabbath book review

rest

Run Run Run, that’s all we do as moms. We are constantly on the go, taking the kids to school, running errands, going to play dates, getting groceries, taking children to activities. When do we stop, never. We go go go. Rest Living Simply in the Sabbath is helping me to remember to live for God and not myself. I need this reminder and in six aspects of the Sabbath I can work on ways to Stop Stop Stop.

By resting, reconnecting, revising, pausing, playing, and praying we can get back into living for God. I am in imperfect being, I am an imperfect mother and God still loves me. I don’t need to take an all out approach to get closer to go, he accepts our baby steps. I’m 28 years old and I think my relationship with God is still in it’s infancy. Rest reminds me that I can live with God every day if I just take the time.

Lemon Head – Hair Flair I can wear Giveaway

imageI’ve been the most hip mom on the block lately because I’ve been wearing LemonHead Bandeez. These patent pending hair accessories are great because they fit infants to moms. They are handmade by SAHMs. I really like them because of how well it fits in my hair and it is adjustable for my daughter. She has a larger head than most two year olds so finding something for her to wear comfortably is difficult. These ribbon headbands stay in your hair because of the Velcro on the top and it doesn’t make my head itch and because of the toggle device at the end of the ribbons. They are great non-slip headbands.

My daughter has been wearing the Silk Flower clipeez in Silk Flowersher hair in addition to the bandeez. She drives me nuts sometimes though. She’ll wear her accessories and then just suddenly decide to pull them out and put them wherever so keeping up with them is a bit difficult but I think most moms struggle with this and their daughters. They stay in place though. For the price and quality these are very great. You can purchase them for 6.00 to 10.00 dollars.

You can win one of each, one headband and one hair clip.

Visit LemonHead and tell me what you like.

Boost Mobile’s i776w purple for Mother’s Day

I share them as I come across them. Do you think mom would like a purple phone? I would love to have my phone in purple. I got mine for free from where my husband works. We get excellent discounts through companies because they provide Microsoft the discounts to get Microsoft employees business. Since Microsoft employs a huge amount of people in our area it makes sense. So, if your mom is in need of a new phone try this out for just 99.00 and a service plan for 50.00. I think it’s quite pretty and prepaid phones are more popular than I ever thought they would be. They must be helpful for people on a budget. Oh that’s my family. I so need to get us back on our budget. I just don’t have any motivation right now. .

I left my DH home alone with the kids

It has been a few months since I have felt like going to MNO with the MOMS Club. I can find an excuse every month not to go. This month they were getting car pools together on the day of the event so I decided I’ll drive. This made me committed so I couldn’t come up with an excuse; I had to drive.

IMG_0103Dad had fun with the kids an d I had a TON of fun, that’s a whole blog post in itself. So my husband said that my son was having fun with the orange crayon. It wasn’t until the next morning that I noticed this.

I would say wow, that is a lot of fun with the orange crayon. My DH said he didn’t notice him at the wall.

My son can not be left alone in a room. He just gets into everything. At least he didn’t get hurt. I find myself blogging from time to time and totally miss the fact that he’s getting into something until I hear the crying. So I can’t be mad, anyways, crayon on the wall is so easy to clean up.

Strawberry Stretch Island Fruit rolls on her tongue

fruitbu

We were given the opportunity to try Strawberry Stretch Island Co. FruitaBu Rolls. Miles, Zoe and I all liked them. Miles, I had to help him though by breaking it into pieces. He has a tendency to just mash as much into his mouth as he can at a time, he’s only one.

fruitabu Fruitabu is just squished fruit, these were fruit rolls, to my daughter it’s a fun nutritious way to get half a serving of fruit without the juicy mess of fresh fruit, or without the peeling. I found it easy to chew and unlike the other brand it didn’t stick to my teach. The texture was quite different from what I expected it to be. It was yummy too.

It comes in strawberry, grape and apple and no preservatives, artificial flavors or colors; just organic fruit. The moms I hang out with were telling me about it but I didn’t understand the name. I see them with it all the time. They buy it at Costco, and buying something from Costco, you usually want to make sure you like it first. So, now I know we do and we’ll be getting some next time we go.
