Food Network April Highlights
March 17, 2009 · Filed Under Food Network, Robert IrvineI’m really not entirely sure how I got on this e-mail list, but every month I get highlights from the Food Network. They are Public New Releases. Now this one caught my eye.
Robert Ivine returns as the host of Dinner Impossible. Now, is this because the other guy couldn’t get the ratings that Robert had, well what does this say about the Food Network’s morals. You fired the guy because he lied to get the job. He lied in so many ways, he said he was a knight, he said he worked on Princess Dianna’s wedding cake. I mean, why make up this stuff, people say he can cook, from watching the show in the past he obviously knows how to bark orders, he doesn’t seem to be a nice guy. I only watched it because I was trying to watch appropriate tv while my daughter was awake and now we don’t have cable and I’m not waisting the time I do have to watch hulu on dinner impossible. Sorry Food network, but I really don’t think giving this guy a second chance is a great idea.
Dinner: Impossible
Premieres: Wednesday, April 8th at 10pm – SEASON PREMIERE!
“X Eats at the X Games”
In the season premiere of Dinner: Impossible, Robert heads to Aspen, Colo. to cook for 200 action sports athletes at the Winter X Games. Robert works in severe outdoor conditions, and has just seven hours to make his most extreme menu ever. Can he overcome spills, hills and chills, or will this be Dinner: Impossible?
I would however, be interested in watching the new series Food Network Challenge All Star “Last Cake Standing“. I love reality TV contests.
LAST CAKE STANDING
Since 2005, Food Network Challenge has captivated viewers with exciting food battles from around the country. Now in it’s first-ever elimination-style competition, Food Network Challenge: Last Cake Standing, six Challenge all-stars vie for the title of “Best Cake Artist in America.” Premiering Sunday, April 5th at 8pm, the series throws the pastry chefs into a grueling four-round cake competition. The Challenge alumni will be thrown a number of difficult tasks, from creating one-of-a-kind wedding creations to undergoing a 24-hour cake-making marathon. Each week the judges eliminate one cake artist, and the winner takes home the biggest prize in Challenge history: $50,000! Challenge emcee Keegan Gerhard serves as host and notable pastry chef Patrick Coston and famed cake designer Kerry Vincent lead the judging panel.
Premieres: Sunday, April 5th at 8pm – SERIES PREMIERE!
“Episode One”
In the premiere of Food Network Challenge: Last Cake Standing, six enthusiastic Challenge all-stars receive their first task: illustrate one aspect of their lives through cake! The action-packed competition begins with surprise instructions to move into their kitchens and immediately start creating their signature cakes. At the elimination ceremony, a curveball shocks the competitors when they, instead of the judges, are told to eliminate the first cake artist.
Premieres: Sunday, April 12th at 8pm
“Episode Two”
The five remaining competitors take a field trip to Denver’s City Hall where they embark upon an exciting, but complicated challenge: create a top-notch wedding cake in only eight hours. The competitors serve as wedding ceremony witnesses and consult with the newlyweds before completing impromptu cake sketches. The judges reveal the next elimination and the winning cake is served at the reception that very night.
Premieres: Sunday, April 19th at 8pm
“Episode Three”
The competition heats up when the four remaining competitors design over-the-top cakes based on an original superhero, decked out with extreme elements like moveable parts and fireworks. Hours before the competition, they are divided into teams and required to combine their cake designs. The winning team advances to the finale, and the losing duo faces off in an intense, 30-minute “cake-off” to determine who will move on and who will go up in smoke!

Premieres: Sunday, April 26th at 8pm
“Episode Four”
The final three competitors endure a 24-hour cake-making marathon – the longest competition in Challenge history! The finalists create a unique five-foot birthday cake for a set of sextuplets. Upon completion, they must transport their cakes 20 miles to the birthday party. Strategy, endurance and skills are tested and one talented cake artist is finally crowned the winner!

To be fair, I don’t think the Robert Irvine matter is clear-cut. If you check out Robert Irvine’s blog http://www.chefrobertirvineblog.com/index.php/robert0004-jpg he has made a good case for himself. I’m biased though, because I really wanted him back on the show. It just wasn’t the same with Chef Symon.
