Jumble Pie Review/Read it yourself

A book by: Melanie Lynne Hauser

Melanie decided to be a mother and she raised two children, boys, and became a supermom. She drove her sons to soccer practices, track meets, music lessons and orthodontist appointments and joined the PTA. After her children grew up she realized she never had a career and decided to do something she loved. Well, she loved reading so she took a stab at writing. She wrote Confessions of a Super Mom and the sequel Super Mom Saves The World. To read more about Melanie visit Melanie Lynne Hauser

Jumble Pie is one of the first books she wrote before anything she wrote was published. So this is one of her first books and is finally making it to the printing presses as it should. For now, it is still only available in e-form. You can download it from her site see link below, or you can get a copy to read on the kindle. I LOVE electronic reading as my laptop is ALWAYS in my lap.

Jumble Pie is a heart warming story about friendship and how women keep secrets to keep friends from being hurt. In this story, Melanie begins in the present time and then flashes back to when the friendship began between these two girls. What girls am I referring to? Emily and Juliet and their precious pie. Well, there is more to their friendship than that but you’ll have to read this light hearted, playful word collection yourself.

Hear Melanie describe how a Horrible Swiffer Accident gave the world its newest superhero:

You can still get a free download of the book. www.MelanieLynneHauser.com/JumblePie

ADT Home Security

When we moved one of the first things we did was put in a home security system. Living in a house out in the middle of nowhere was very frightening to me, and having two big dogs wasn’t enough for me. I wanted to get the security system. We don’t have ADT, we have some smaller company that I’m not going to name because I’m not entirely happy with. The link is for ADT because they are a very well known company and they have been in business for over 130 years.

Now having a family I sleep well at night knowing that everyone is safe in our home with the doors and windows locked. There are so many noises out in the woods. We hear trees falling and it’s quite a loud sound. Yes in the forest when a tree falls it does make noise. We also have a lama farm down the street and they make the more horrid sounds when they are in fear. The first time I heard this sound I thought some poor child was being attacked. Now I just sleep with ear plugs in and I don’t hear a sound. Actually, I do have mom radar and I hear my kids cry.

You know, security systems now days have buttons on them that dial out to the fire department, police, 911. It’s nice to know with the touch of a button help will be on the way. Not to mention if someone tries to break in. ADT is the number 1 security company in America.

Helping Others

I had to post my posts in a specific order today because I wanted this one to be at the top of Friday’s posts. This is a very important topic to me and I want to be an example and make sure everyone sees this post. First Off, I am participating in The Parent Blogger’s Network’s weekly Blog Blast. This week the Blog Blast is about helping others:

Dear Bloggers -
Whether it’s writing down goals in our personal journal
or proclaiming them publicly on our blog, most of us resolve to make changes as
the new year rolls around – better organization, healthier living, smaller
pants. But what about resolving to do something for someone else? Whether it’s
helping your neighbor whose husband is deployed, volunteering at your local
nursing home, or together with your kids donating some outgrown toys to a local
church, making a difference in someone else’s life can be just as satisfying as
changing your own – if not more so.

So tell us how you and your
family already help others, or how you plan to add that to your list for 2009.

This week, we’ve teamed up with The Quaker Oats Company to spread
the word about the Start with Substance campaign to donate up to one million
bowls of oatmeal to those in need. From January 12 through February 28, for every
UPC from a Quaker Oatmeal hot cereal product families enter at www.startwithsubstance.com, Quaker
will donate one bowl of oatmeal to Share Our Strength, a childhood hunger
organization. You’ll need to be a Facebook member to participate.Families
helping families – now that’ll make you feel as warm inside as a bowl of
oatmeal.
What can you
win? We’ve got two $250 VISA gift cards to award at random! We’re looking forward
to your posts!
Best,Kristen & Julie

I find it absolutely wonderful and invite you to share how you are going to give this year.

What am I doing this year? I am doing a LOT. One of the moms in my MOMS club had a birthday party for her son and instead of bringing gifts we all made party gift bags to give to the food bank. These bags contained various items required to throw a party for children’s parents who can’t afford party favors, cake mix, bowls and plates, juice, decorations. It was a lot of fun to put this together.

I am also giving the food bank things that I can get for free or nearly for free. I’m going to be collecting things all year round and give whenever I have a couple bags full of food. I also participate in all of the service projects that my MOMS club does for the organizations around the area. We help moms in need. If we hear about someone that needs something we try to fill that need. We make birthday cakes for each other and we make meals when someone has a baby. You know, helping others doesn’t always mean you need to give money. Sometimes just taking the time to show someone you care is the biggest way to help.

One other thing I am trying to get involved in is

Bloggersgive

BloggersGive

I have a huge passion to help others. I have always felt that I don’t have the resources to give; but over the past two years I have realized that I CAN. I can get companies to give and I can give out of what I have. If you can contact a company and ask for a product to review and giveaway, why can’t you ask for one to donate. Donations are excellent PR and a tax write off. They also are full filling. My grandmother gives everything you give her. I sent some magnets to her with pictures of my children on them. She gave them away because my cousin just loved the picture of my kids. So it was a good thing that I sent extra to my dad. He made sure that there was still one on her fridge. I suppose she is one of the examples in my life that makes me want to give.

When I was growing up she would always take me with her when she was delivering Meals on Wheels. She also took me to meet some distant relatives that didn’t have toys or clothes and she would gather hand-me-downs from the family and deliver them. It really touches me now. I hope I had the right attitude then. I want to bring my kids up the same way. I shall do what I can to give to the community I live in and through the Internet. Thank you to everyone that makes this possible.

Giving is something people do at the end of the year. Christmas seems to make us think about giving. We should do it all year round. The spirit of Christmas should be in our hearts every day.

Fitness Friday

Meet the Wiifit Mommies:

The Coupon Coup The Real Life Blog These ladies are all V-logging their journey using the Wii Fit to get that body back.

Me, I’m doing it the old fashioned way. Well, I mean non digitally. I am still having a very hard time with the fitness during the week. I haven’t gained or lost any weight I’m just treading water. I’m having some really bad back pain so that is my excuse for this week but I still wanted to post and cheer everyone else on through their exercise.
Monday: I think I went to Rite Aid again
Tuesday: I went to the bank and REI so my exercises was walking around with my son in the Baby Bjorn that he hardly fits into anymore. Two more lbs and he can’t be put in it. I wonder why my back hurts. hmmm.
Wednesday: Lazy day at home. Yes, I was lazy. I put on the movies and laid around.
Thursday: Oh was that today? Yes, I did the stairs when i went to the doctor.
Friday: I plan on doing housework while my husband takes my daughter to the doctor.
I still want to drink more water and less coffee. I am a world class water drinker as it is but if I could give up coffee I know it would be even better for me. I just don’t think that people can survive in the state of Washington without drinking coffee. There is no sun for months at a time just rain so all I want to do is crawl back into bed. I have children so I can’t do that anymore but before I had kids and before I got a job after college when i was a lazy housewife I would sleep all day.
Looking back I was probably depressed. I just didn’t realize it. I have a sun light now and I should use it. It is supposed to make it easier for me to get out of bed. I just don’t.
Oh and I am still eating cookies a whole pre-packaged separate and bake and eat at a time. Oh yes, I love chocolate chip cookies. I would have eaten more if there had been any in the house today. They were all gone. So I had a bowl of Cinnamon Toast crunch instead. Man, exercise and not eating junk seems to be impossible right now. I’m hoping that my mood gets better after I go to the doctor tomorrow. I really want my back to stop hurting.
I can’t think of any other goals. I don’t have a sugar addiction and I don’t drink soda. I do have a huge love of chocolate and coke but I don’t have any coke around. Chocolate, is probably hiding in every nook and cranny around the house.. I have to have it to be a good mommy.

Now I am here to update. Saw the theme for today is snow. I have plenty of those to show you.

This was when i started snowing. We got a bit, no big deal then we got more and more and more.

This is a picture of what should be our back yard. We lost our backyard. It was like a sandbox, only filled with snow. I’d say we had about 2 1/2 feet.

Aloha Friday Back Ache
