Nerves Of a Sheppard
Growing up, my dad hated dogs. So it took a lot of begging from my stepmother to let us have a dog. We had a poodle named Pixie and my sister and I used to dress her up. I wasn’t big on dogs for a long time.
My husband grew up with dogs. His family was poor and homeless at one time, but they always had a dog. So, when we got married, we decided to have a dog.
Yes, I say that like have a baby. Everyone says you should get a dog before you have children. I think you should. Potty training a puppy is not as bad as feeding a newborn, but you do have to get up at any hour during the night to let them go outside. My first baby, I fell in love with him.
We named him Chewbacca (star wars). He grew into his name. He chewed on everything, the furniture, shoes, balls. He was very easy to train though. The funniest thing was how he liked to walk himself. He would carry the leash in his mouth while we walked.
Well, Chewbacca was a great test to finding out that we did want to have kids. So, five years later we had Zoe. Now, we went through other dogs looking for a compatible playmate for Chewbacca and that is how we ended up with General Jack O’Neil (stargate SG-1).
Chewbacca didn’t like Zoe, so he had to go. It was really hard to say good bye to my dog. Jack however, loves Zoe. He would always come get one of us whenever she was crying. It was harder on Jack to teach Zoe to sleep through the night than it was for her father and I.
Jack also has some nervous issues. I “think” he would protect us if someone was tyring to break in, but I’m not sure. If they were to raise their voice, he might just scour away and hide. He is a German Sheppard though, so he looks big and scary; however, he is the sweetest and most loving dog. Just don’t raise your voice.
Burger King has new iDogs. We bought one last year as a birthday gift for my husbands sister. It was pretty fun. I think it was actually a turtle.
